Top Iraqi Offical warns Iraq will colapse into civil war without the US to keep the peace.
Bottom line is the muslims there are so uncivilized, full of hate and violent that they kill each other without someone to intervene. Saddam used terror to control the terrorists. Now they are free and are lashing out at each other.
Mostly the hatred is sparked by Iran who supports and supplies one group there.

this is a pretty loaded question. The legitimate reason is that our military thought Saddam Hussein was producing weapons of mass destruction so we went over there to capture him for war crimes, and crimes against humanity. So we went over there and did that. But that is only partly why we are still there. We are still there because there is no order in the government. And if we left the country would simply fall apart. You have to finish what you start.
Others would say that the only reason we are over there is to take control of the import/export of petroleum so big oil tycoons can line their pockets with money and use the government over there as an excuse.
I honestly cant tell you what the real reason is. people are divided on this and will always be. Some will defend the president ... others will condemn. But everyone has to agree on one thing... The United States voted him in... and then again for a second term. So we have to deal with his decisions as a president. Until most likely Obama or Hillary take office. And what happens after that could be better or possibly worse. Hope this answers your question.

It wouldn't actually end pointless deaths - there'd probably be more pointless deaths - just fewer of those deaths would be American, at least at first.
One can also argue that the casualties suffered thus far are only pointless if we give up. If we were to succeed, then those deaths would have been for a reason.

If we bring everyone home, Saddam Hussein's remaining followers will kill all of the innocent Iraqis just like what happened in Vietnam. If we leave now, the Iraqis will be defenseless, and dictatorship might take them over again.
Heres a way to put it. When you were in school, what happened when the teacher left the classroom? Usually, everyone goes nuts, I even used to see fights break out on a few occasions. If the soldiers (the teacher) leave Iraq (the classroom) the Iraqis and Hussein's followers (the students) will cause chaos.

It is my opinion that 9-11 in a major part in this, but not all of the reason. Sadam also was a very bad man. He also put in play a assination attempt on the first Presedent Bush. Although we ded not win the peace, there was a legitimate reason for going in to Iraq. The congress voted to go in.

Because the administration hates to be wrong. But even if we could force the administration to consider that option, you have to worry about the Iraqis who supported the invasion. What happens to them afterwards? My only hesitation with pulling out is that we allowed Bush (yes, we, through our elected represntatives) to break Iraq (more than it was) and I feel we have an obligation to fix it. Sort of screwed up to go in there, wreck a bunch of stuff and then say oops... gotta go.

Bring everyone home, that's your answer, and then go back in to stop the genocide that will follow between the shiites and sunnis....obviously, common sense is not in your gene pool.

Money is power. Some would also argue population control. Some would venture into the religious aspects, but overall, this is a tough one to answer as there are too many variables to say it is one particular reason we are fighting. If we didnt have conflicts, there is no reason for military, therefore we could spend the money on useless things such as health care or do I dare say education?

Because it was a mistake to come here in the first place, and now we are pretty much stuck. Bush's war policy "Whoops, well we are there so we might as well stay."

If we retreat from Iraq, the terrorist will pursue us and our allies, expanding the fight to the rest of the region and to our own shores.
