Your ear piercing area may feel very irritated by soreness, slight puffiness and/or redness which may eventually start an oozing or bleeding appearance from the earring stump. At times, this can also feel very warm. When you had your ear pierced, it should have been recommended that you use a peroxide base solution that is needed to use on a daily basis along with rotating your earring from time to time to keep it from "sticking" to the ear itself while it heals. This solution can be found at a local drug store or an easier place would be a place where they sell jewelry and pierce ears such as Claire's at your local malls and outlet stores. These type of places will have the solution for pierced ears. It is always recommended to see a doctor but if you are just concerned, this can help. Good luck and try not to sleep on the infected earlobe!:>)

Redness, swelling, soreness, a pus discharge, foul odors around the affected area, these are the early symptoms. Excruciating pain, major swelling of surrounding areas, worse smell, and uglier discharge for late-early stages. Left go too long, necrotizing fasciitis, the flesh eating disease, if infection gets under the muscles' fascia layer. Not likely in an ear infection, but any head infection needs to be tended to, lest it travel to the subdural sac and infect the brain. It's why a dentist won't pull your tooth if it's infected, until he clears up the infection, so he doesn't kill you.

Red, hot to the touch and has pus coming out of it are all the big signs. I would take your earrings out and call the doctor!

redness, swelling, itching, discharge from the wound itself and feeling very hot to the touch are all indicators of infection.

If you are holding it in your hands...that's a good sign of infection.
