You must be a blonde. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that A.M. means "Before Noon" and P.M. means "After Noon"; therefore, 12:30 P.M. is in the afternoon, or as you put it, "midday"; whereas, 12:30 A.M. would be in the morning - I.E. after midnight.

12:30 p.m. is in the 'middle' of the day. Right after midnight, it would be 12:30 a.m.
Ante = BEFORE
Post = AFTER
Morning comes 'before' the 'after'noon! If you can remember that, you'll never have another 'blond moment' ... and don't worry about it ... I can remember that, but sometimes I have to 'look on my computer' to know what day of the week it is!

in 1966 a band named Chicago asked the very same question
which you are enquiring into.
side one, second track, 4 minutes and 36 seconds of pure
astonishment. Hats off to Rober Lamm made it a top 10 hit.
But because the members of this band were unfamiliar with
both astronomy and computer science, new songs will need
to be written in the future.
such as:
Does my computer really know what time it is?
Einsteins ticket to ride.
I'm hitching a ride with Limberge, (as his is the only plane flying on time lately)
How fast can your concret set if it could sit?
Timex, it took a licking, now is running behind the times
next, an important topic, relevant to your question.
you see, heat expand things, cold causes things to contract.
now, this is why, in summer, the days are longer, because they are hotter,
and conversely,
in winter, the days are shorter, because they are colder.
all pretty simple, yes!
