Are you getting the message? I agree with all the above. You make what YOU want to make for the family, and if he doesn't eat it, he'll have to wit til the next meal. I raised 3 daughters and they surely knew that what was put in front of them was what they were going to eat! I wasn't exactly cruel- I did make family friendly things like spaghetti, hamburger helper, tuna casserole, etc. and each kid had something in particular that they didn't like. If I put mushrooms in the spaghetti sauce, one would pick them out- BUT she did eat the spaghetti. Another would pick peas out of the tuna casserole then eat the rest. Obviously, no treats if the meal isn't eaten. Be consistent and stay firm and you will end up with a happy, well-nourished kid who eats almost anything!

If you let him tell you what he will eat then your in for it! He will eat when he is hungry enough to not be picky. I know someone with 5 kids and she lets hers do that. She is always stressed out when it is time to make meals. If she doesn't want to make 5 meals then they accuse her of playing favorites. I think it is normal to have a few dislikes but every food should not be an issue.

You are not doing this toddler any favors. The toddler will eat when he's hungry and if you do whatever you can do to placate the child in this, you're likely to do it in other areas and that's not good. You are the parent, and the toddler is the child and needs to have firm rules which are either followed or privileges are lost.
