Yes. It can mess up your electrolytes and acid/base balance. It can cause a lot of problems, the first of which is you would be likely to pass out.
That's why they have those so-called "sports drinks" like Gatorade with electrolytes (sodium, potassium, etc.) added.
I used to work in a state mental hospital, and a lot of people with Schizophrenia have a thing called "water intoxication" where they keep drinking water and they get light headed; almost like they are drunk. Some of them have terrible behavior problems when they do that. The staff has to try their best to control how much water they drink.
I'm not sure if it goes along with Schizophrenia or if it's a side effect of the medication. I think the effects of water intoxication might be a little more dramatic on people with Schizophrenia than the average person, but I'm not totally sure about that.

ok, after reading that article, I almost peed my pants laughing....I mean thats terrible for the woman, dont think I'm laughing at her...but at the situation....of course if you hold your pee for a long amount of time, your bladder is going to burst, and can cause other health problems...but I dont think you can die from drinking too much water as long as you use the bathroom regularly......I drink at least a gallon of water myself every day and I am still alive and kicking!! I want to stress again, that I feel terrible for that woman, but who would put their health at risk for a stupid wii?? not me, thats for sure!

there is such as thing as water poisoning during which your cells burst but that would only happen if you drank several gallons in a very short amount of time. other than that kind of overdose, really you can't drink too much throughout the day.

Yes. Too much water can cause hyponatremia (not enough salt.) This can lead to seizures and other medical emergencies.

It can be fatal if you are drowning. Seriously, if one drinks excessive amounts of water it can result in water poisoning, which can be fatal.
