I would head over to the new yankee workshop's website, at www.newyankee.com and check out his pre-made plans. I'm not sure if he has ever made one, but I'd be willing to bet that he has. The plans will be a bit pricey, but they'll include everything you need to know and nice instructions on how to build a fantastic wooden picnic table.

look under ,wood patterns in ebay , i just got one ,to make an table ,an octagonal one cost , about $5, or go to lowes they sells books on maken tables
