Atheists on R&S feel they are being relentlessly persecuted and abused by fundies, who force them to do all kinds of things like practice school prayer and believe in "creationism". Presumeably these fundies - a vast, sprawling monolith consisting of huge groups like the Jehovah's Witness - are about to overthrow the government and establish a fundie theocracy. If that happens they might be tough on atheists. Shouldn't we Catholics kind of stand up for atheists on humanitarian grounds? We don't want them to end up like Kurds, for heaven's sake. I say, now is the time, before those monolithic fundie groups take over. Then they'll have their lives controlled in every way, from school prayer to forced conversion. Awful! I say, let's act now to create an organization to protect their human rights. We could even create shelters like those Dorothy Day houses we have now for the homeless. How about it? Sound like a plan?

Brian F - That's because Catholics believe all humans are made in God's image and therefore worthy of respect and entitled to dignity, even if their beliefs are different from ours.

Maybe we could set up "adapt an atheist" and hire Sally Struthers and Mike Farrell to do an infomercial?

Grendel, my friend,

You really seem to have it in for Fundamentalists, and Atheists. As a Good Catholic and Christian you should realize that one can not legislate Intelligence or righteousness. That doesn't mean that the lack of either or both doesn't cheez us off. As Christians, it is our called duty to evangelize, and set an outward living example as little Christs. When Fundies, and Atheists, even Agnostics and followers of cults and sects spout off and are critical of our beliefs it is an opportunity to set an example as "little Christs", not little Adolphs.

You sound like a radical. A real wild and crazy guy. Why don't you do something really useful, like change or healthcare or education system? Make sure no one goes hungry?

I like it, thanks.

It is funny, but I usually don't see too much bashing by Mormons or Catholics. Why is that?
