There was some poor dip that Dawkins mentions. A geologist, I think. He realised that his work was increasingly in conflict with his 'faith'.
So he thought long and hard, and wrestled with his conscience, and looked at the geological data indicating a planet billions of years old, and weighed it against the Ussher diktat of creation at 4004BCE...
And he gave up geology!

Scriptually speaking, Young Earth Creationism is unbiblical. In addition, every Christian scientist I have read holds to an Old Earth Creationism position.

No, I do not believe anyone can name such a person. It is only the fundamentalists who claim to believe that the earth is only 8,000 years old. I say "claim to believe," because I think they have completely distorted the definition of the term "believe" in this. I am convinced that they do not so much believe it as believe that they are supposed to believe it, and therefore declare that they believe it.

I am guessing there are one or two out there who claim to be 'non-christian' - I doubt there are really any out there who do not hold the beliefs of one of the religions that believes in creation of some sort.

Can anyone name a non-christian scientist that believes in a young earth?
They are a myth,... like bigfoot and god.

The Mt St Helens erruption provided evidence that what scientists would have estimated to be hundreds of thousands of years worth of activity, could happen in less than a day. This proved that dating systems still being used are incredibly unreliable.
