Since September I have worked as a Kindergarten teacher at a day care with a private kindergarten. I have my bachelors degree in Elementary Education and I want to be in a public school. Because where I work now is a day care, it is a full time position and I am currently doing summer camp. The work enviornment has become awful and boarders harassment (the directors son is in summer camp and is not very well behaved, I went to speak with her about it almost a month ago and she has treated me like crap ever since because I am "picking on her son"). I have two interviews this Wednesday for public school positions and I know that I will be fired if I call in sick or ask off. I have decided to quit for numorous reasons but I'm not sure how giving the cercumstances. Should I give them a two weeks notice tomorrow then call in sick on Wednesday, or should I just quit tomorrow? I will not be using them as a reference.

I'd call in with a headache, personally. (You just won't tell them that the "headache" is the director's brat!) That's a justifiable reason for calling in sick and if they fire you it will still preserve your unemployment benefits as that would not be a proper "for cause" reason for discharging you. ;)

Faced with the same circumstances, I would suggest you call asap and let them know you do not think there has been a good working relationship and you feel you need to move, and the sooner the better.

Not knowing where you or anyone else will end up years down the road, it would be prudent to offer to fill in or pick up the slack for the next few days but Wednesday would be out of the question. Thank them for letting you work at the camp and school, and wish them luck...

You are in a jam time wise, might as well pull the plug with as much grace as possible. Also, since you are going to a public school, you may want to consider brushing up on your spelling.

The best way to quit your job without giving any details is to write a very simple letter of resignation. In the letter state your last day. Thank them for the opportunity and sign the letter.

Set up a meeting at the end of one of your work days. Fridays tend to be the best. Prepare yourself prior to the meeting. The only thing you have to do is walk into the meeting. Sit down. Say, "The purpose of this meeting is to give you my two weeks notice. My last day is ___________. Thank you for the opportunity. I am committed to working through my two weeks. I appreciate the opportunity you have given me to work here."

Stop talking. If she asks for specifics, all you have to say is it is time for me to do something else. I have chosen to look for another opportunity. That's it. You do not have to give any more details. Say thank you and leave the room. The meeting should last no more than 3 minutes.

Give them two weeks notice when you have secured another job. You should never quit a job unless you have another one lined up. Also, no matter how unhappy you are, it isn't a good idea to burn bridges. Besides, it doesn't sound like your boss likes you. When you give your notice, she might tell you not to bother coming back anyway. In the meantime, go ahead and call in sick to go to your interviews. If they fire you, then so be it. You can file for unemployment if you are terminated.

It's never a good idea to burn your bridges when it comes to a job. Just because you don't list them as a reference you will have to list them as an employer. Go out with grace... Write a letter thanking them for the opportunities, experiences. It's with regret that I have to announce that my last day will be July xx, 2007. Doesn't always have to be exactly 2 weeks either.

Give then two weeks notice , and if they don't fire you , work those two weeks and give the children your best . when the time is up you did the right thing and you'll feel good about it.

you should speak to the boss and say it's just not working for me, or act goofy and not do your job.
