No dog should ever be bathed more than once a week. Less often is even better. Too many bathes and it can dry out thier skin and strip their fur of the natural oils.

____________
Note: Not all dogs HAVE to be bathed....unless of course they get into something that gets them very dirty. It depends on the breed. Take for instance the American Eskimo.....If they are brushed often enough there is no need to bathe them, but only once in awhile. Eskie's don't have that typical "dog smell" to them because of the type of fur they have. Even if an Eskie gets mud on them......let it dry and it brushes right out. Brushing them brings out their natural oils in their fur that can keep their fur clean. But like I said it depends on the breed.

First I would talk to your vet before you create a bathing regiment, however, I wash my large long haired dog about once a month (she is an indoor animal, and we own a small house). My parents own a chessie that jumps in the local pond or in the sprinkler almost every day, however chessies have coats that are specifically designed to get wet (they have an oil that repels water).

So I would say about once a month, unless you really can't stand the smell of the dog, then I would talk to your vet and see what they may recommend. The vet may advise you to add olive oil and a garlic/brewers yeast combo to your animals diet to promote a health coat.

Make sure that you use a dog shampoo, not a human shampoo. I would recommend Chris Christensen products. They are wonderful products, and all come with a guarantee. The brushes and combs are wonderful, and the shampoos are equally as nice.

i've had only large breed dogs my entire life and if you wash them to much they will dry very easily. you should bath them every 3 to 6 weeks and don't use dog shampoo. The best thing to do is take a large gallon jug and by baby shampoo. put the entire bottle of shampoo in and then fill the rest with water. drys out the skin less and you can wash them more on the 3 week side rather then 6 weeks.

All dogs need to be bathed. Depending on your climate I would recommend from once every two weeks to a month, and more often if the dog gets very dirty.

If your dogs coat reacts badly to being washed you need to consult your vet because that is not normal.

Be sure to use a shampoo that was made for dogs, not a human one.

In my adventure, the canines breeds that are the least possibly to advance human aggression subject concerns are the Pug, Beagle, English Bulldog, and Boston Terrier. i haven't incredibly seen an occasion of any of those breeds that i'd say had a serious aggression situation, nonetheless I incredibly have met a unfold of frightened Beagles. properly-bred Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Pit Bulls, and Greyhounds would be stunning up there as properly. on the different hand are the breeds that are maximum possibly to be aggressive. I incredibly have by no ability had a delightful adventure with a Yorkie. in actuality, of the 50 or so Yorkies that I incredibly have encountered, i'd say all 50 had some variety of aggression situation. Chow Chows, Akitas, and Chihuahuas are stunning up there as properly. yet, i'd say that the main aggressive canines breeds are the somewhat some breeds of Terrier from Scotland, the Scottish Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, and Skye Terrier. Scotties and Westies specifically are very bitey canines.

at this time of year your better off taking the dog to the lake or river to bath him . get some bio degradable soap and do it there. you should not bath a dog often . even once a month is getting on the high side. swimming is better.
don't get water or soap in there face or ears. tell him he is a good dog while you wash him and play after ward . work fast and expect a huge mess if you do this in the house.
best if not in the lake then outside . also after the water they will want to roll around and dry off so they get dirty again . .
to avoid this take him for a long walk after ward and don't let him roll .

I bathe my dogs weekly. They are large - with short hair.
Use a mild shampoo meant for dogs. Most importantly - rinse thoroughly - then rinse again. They will stay cleaner & wont itch if you get every little bitty speck of shampoo out of their coats.
You can dry them sufficiently with a towel in the summer time. Just rub till they are dry - I usually use two to three towels per dog & then take them for a walk so they can really air dry.
Best wishes!

This is up to you. I'd wait until he smells or needs a bath, then give him one. I bathe my dog every week, because he gets smelly. Every dog is different, so just try some stuff on him and see how he does.
