Knowing that many of the merchants of doom are American, which areas of USA should I avoid if I seek an educated, enlightened, 21st century holiday ?

Okay, you're making a generalization. There are stupid, horrible people everywhere. We Americans can't help it that our government keeps us oppressed and fearful! I feel like I'm getting totally screwed because of where I live. We're all in debt up to our elbows and we can't help it.
The coasts are always nice. I'd recommend Las Vegas, for the obvious, or Savannah, because its the most beautiful city I've ever seen.
Give us Americans a break, okay? Even I don't know where they get those people on Jerry Springer!

small towns, small mid-western and southern towns, anyplace where they agree with Bush,
come to the SF Bay Area. You will find educated enlightened 21st century people here

If America is as bad as you say why come here at all? Hitler wasn't American neither was Caligula. Or Stalin, or Jack the ripper. With the exception of Stalin--USSR, these were all European!!!

Stick to the coasts. I don't know where they find those gorillas they have on US TV, but normal, ordinary Yanks are usually bloody marvellous.

go to Amsterdam or Europe - Spain, Portugal...
