I am the Brit who hears this DAILY:

"Oooh, I love your accent", and "Where did you get the accent?" to which I sometimes reply "Walmart".

Sadly, the delight in the British accent is misplaced. We are just as likely to be criminals, white collar crime doers (and we may even spit in the street!) as any other nationality. I tell people that it is 'reverse prejudice'. You think more highly of me than you ought.

The delight in another's accent is jealousy and envy. Quite unwarranted.

So, I also ask "Why??"

I am attracted to British accents as well! But I think it is mainly because the British accent is so different (and it's the original way to speak English) and sounds so proper that people just like it.

And Harry Potter may actually emphasize British accents (even though Emma Watson's accent annoys me because it sounds so posh and stuck up, sorry) and many people are falling in love with the accent everyday...

But then again - many people get jealous of what they don't have when they have others who are envious of them!

I think because most people think that's the correct way to speak english, since it sounds sophisticated.

I think it's because they sound so intelligent and confident, and confidence is sexy. :P

Plus the novelty of it is nice.
