Carriers all the way. The newer the better. You get a brand new office with brand new equipment. Lots of space to move around in and your work space really looks like a regualar dentist office out in town, more or less. Try CVN 76 USS RONALD REAGAN or the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN if you want the east coast.

I am ret machinist mate who is a plank owner of the USS John C. Stennis but I am not a big fan of carriers but for a DT they are not bad also the LHD or LHA would be good duty. I am just a big fan of the air dales esp the squadron types. Any way I work @ Norfolk Naval shipyard and I doing work on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. My fav ships were the AOR'S which are long gone for MM that was some duty I use to work in deck department on the unrep and deck gear. Any that's my story and I am sticking to it.

If you want to pull good liberty and not have to stand in a liberty line for HOURS...DO NOT ask for orders for a carrier. A small boy can go to more ports and more than likely pull up to a pier. Small boys are more like a big family. You get to know just about anyone. Carriers with about 6,000 people...no thanks. I was on 5 ships (ARG-4, AS-16, AS-36, AGF-3, and CVN-68...retired off the Nimitz) and visited 32 countries (some more than once). Of course there are only 2 AS's left in the Navy (E.S. Land in Sardinia and F.Cable in Guam). AS's don't go anyplace very often. As for subs: TRIDENT or FBM...Fast Attacks' schedules can really be screwed up.

as a rated HM with the DT NEC.. your choices are very limited.. carrier only. all other ships just have an IDC. the two Hospital ships don't carry a full complement PCS afloat, but you could go TAD to one.

you stand a much higher chance of getting shore duty straight out of A/C school.

I loved being on a carrier. I would imagine that being a DT, a carrier would be the best place to go since the sea doesn't push it around as much as a small boy.
