Prose Edda, I *vastly* prefer the Jesse Byock translation.
Poetic Edda, I like Bellows, but the complete edition hasn't been released in paperback that I know of. I keep a Hollander around for the missing parts.
Sagas . . . the Icelander compilation, Njal's, Volsungs, Jomsvikings for sure. Heimskringla if you've got the patience to wade through it.
Simek's Dictionary of Northern Mythology is a good reference, and it and Grimm's 4-vol. Teutonic Mythology are both out in affordable editions now.
Gronbech's Culture of the Teutons is available online. Do a search for Gamall-Stein Hearth; they've got it for online reading and I believe they've added a pdf.
From H.R. Ellis Davidson, Gods & Myths of Northern Europe, Myths & Symbols in Pagan Europe, and Road to Hel are absolutely indispensable. Road to Hel is an online pdf nowadays. I think Varangian Kindred has it on their site.
The Well & The Tree by Bauschatz is a must. You'll either have to get it through an Interlibrary Loan or pay $100 for a reprint from Books on Demand.
You should also look for Rudiments of Runelore and especially, The Mead Hall by Stephen Pollington, and Looking for the Lost Gods of England and Peace Weavers & Shield Maidens by Kathleen Herbert.
Gwynn Jones' A History of the Vikings and Christiansen's The Norsemen in the Viking Age are the best history books out there.
If you ever see a copy---it's long, long out of print---Magnusson's Hammer of the Gods is a wonderful treatment of Norse culture and mythology.
There's a ton of modern stuff out there, but I can't honestly recommend any of it. Read the original and scholarly sources first and you'll be able to tell what to heed and what to discard when reading stuff like Kvedulf's Teutonic Religion and Magic, or Thorsson's Book of Troth or rune primers. :-)

Volsungasaga. Great scripture there. The Nibelungenlied is by far the best, though the Saga of the Volsungs is quite good.

you may additionally pick to be attentive to the guy's denomination, as you are able to desire to no longer lump all 2 billion Christians jointly. Already, you assume what you spot on television is real, or you a minimum of seem perplexed and so which you're asking this question. As a Catholic, who's spouse is Baptist... i could say a pair of million% is approximately hellfire, devil, apocalypse, and end of the international. in reality i won't be able to recollect the final time I heard any of those, settle for the tip of the international. a pair of million.5 years in the past.. our Priest commented on the comprehensive 2012 component to say "who cares, as a Christian, you are able to desire to be waiting at any time, and not subject" So he does not have stated the tip of the international, if it weren't for all of the hysteria approximately 2012 however the vast, vast majority of our Priest's homilies are approximately Love, Charity (vast time) no longer judging others, making the international a greater powerful place by way of training our faith, strolling nearer with God, no longer getting perplexed or dropping desire, etc. I even circulate to Catholic Mass in 2 diverse church homes, besides as in some circumstances hear homilies on EWTN radio. ____________________ ::EDIT::: a million% is an entire wager, as i do no longer save music of such issues. possibly this is 2% ro 3%, notwithstanding this is.. this is an extremely LOW share. In the two case, i'm one hundred% particular that the Catholic church, all 4 hundred,000 or so clergymen around the globe, and tens of hundreds of church homes, do no longer resemble the television Evangelists and their Tribulation, Rapturology and hearth and Brimstone sermons. My spouse is likewise Baptist.. and that i've got attended those church amenities besides at approximately 5 or 6 community church homes in our section (N. California) I truly have by no ability heard a Baptist or Non-denominational Christian pastor talk like they do on television the two. no longer even close. _____________________ ::EDIT::: Sorry for the belief approximately your perspectives. I rejoice with the non-public message
