Question #4 of questions asked to Christians:
My reference is the Bible Answer Book
The Unpardonable Sin
“Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. Matthew 12: 31-32
It is crucial to recognize that the unforgivable sin is not a single act but continuous, ongoing rejection.
For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation 2 Corinthians 7:10
The Bible consistently teaches that those who spend eternity seperated from God do so becuse they willingly, knowingly, and continuously reject the gospel. John refers to this as the "sin leading to death". 1 John 5:16 in the sense that those who refuse forgiveness through Christ will spend eternity seperated from his grace and love.

There is one real quick way to know if you committed the unpardonable sin and are lost. Do you have a desire to still be saved, to pray ???? To read the Bible? IF so , you arent lost yet. Cuz, once the Holy Spirit leaves you, you will have no desire to pray, read the Bible, etc, and you wont care if you are lost. YOu have no more conscious to those things. The Holy Spirit is the one that talks to us to guide us, and when the Holy Spirit is all the way gone, you will hear no voice other than the devils speaking only bad.
You are currect to say this is not a single act, but its year after year of refusing to believe in God and turn from SIn. God lets one convince Him they will never go to Him before they are lost. He knows the heart already, but HE wants to be able to show us that we had every chance. Sin leads to death still today. Disobedience leads to curse, But obeidnece leads to blessing. ITs all choice which you do and if you follow God or the devil. Its all choice. Before one dies they must come to Jesus to know Him, accept Him as saviour, and repent of their sins and stop sinning and be born again with the desires of Gods own heart, not of the world. we have to do this before we die or Jesus comes again to take us home, He is coming soon, so choose soon and wisely.
Nothing on earth is worth losing out on GOd and heaven for. And nothing on earth is worth going to hell for its all choice. REMEMBER....

One can't be sure they're not going to commit it when one doesn't truly understand what the Holy Spirit is.
Ask yourself how you can seperate the Holy Spirit from the Trinity.
To fully realize the answer to that question is the key to unlocking the truth in the Bible.
For me the Unforgivable Sin is the proof That Jesus lived and the basis for all His teaching. To know where the Holy Spirit fits into your life is the path that lets you know you are saved.
Just so you know, It is not the Eternal Sin to not believe the word of God, it's the only the sin if you blaspheme the Holy Spirit. So why do many Christians believe that Christ condemns people of other Faiths, because the Eternal Sin doesn't say this at all. That is the ultimate proof that all worshippers of any other faith are still in Gods Grace and only falling from it when they don't respect the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the tie that binds all people to God's love.
The difference in being Christian is that we Praise Jesus for helping us see His Grace.

According to Jesus, there is only one unforgiveable sin, and that is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. You do this by continually resisting the call to be saved and have your sins washed away. Your heart grows so hard that soon you will be saying what the Holy Spirit does is evil. This was the context when Jesus made this statement in Matthew 12. The Pharisees were saying that what Jesus was doing was of Satan.
The rule of thumb is... if you are worried that you have committed the unpardonable sin--you haven't. So do not worry about your past in regard to this. You would have never written this question if you had done this.

Well that was a nice sermon.
Through out time man has denied God, so God sent his Son to testify in Him who sent him. Those who have the Son have the Father also. But people still disbelieve, so the last sent to convince mankind is the working of the Holy Spirit. Therefore if you denie Gods Holy Spirit there isn't much more convincing. Yes I believe that it is an ongoing, continuous rejection, for we are not dead yet. Even to be right with God one must stay on a ongoing, continuous relationship with Him. "For if we (walk) in the light as he is in the light. We have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus continually washes of our sins". I have no reference, Its just of the top of my head

Read the Sermon on the Mount. Can you detect what "blessed" meant at the time Jesus spoke those words?
During the days of Jesus "blessed" was an expression that meant - To be happy on your deathbed because a "spirit" would witness to you that you were going to Heaven. Today that word simply means to be happy as the result of a gift from God.
"Holy" means clean. - No Bible scholar denies that.
"Spirit" - is that special feeling in your heart from God when you know you know you have done the right thing.
During his ministry, Jesus gave us about 30 sets of instructions as to "how to be blessed". -The Golden Rule was one of them, forgiving others was another, not judging the rigteousness of other people was another example, to mourn for other people's trajedies was another example.
Any one of these 30 sets will result in being "blessed". All of which were "spiritual" ie from the Holy Spirit as a witnessing so to say. Jesus did not preach to the law as his proof, he preached to our hearts.
If you have never followed any of Jesus' 30 sets of instructions, then you have blasphemed the Holy (clean) Spirit that God was sending to your heart, but you refused it.
Jesus was saying you can reject him and be forgiven, but if you reject all of his messages from God you cannot be forgiven.
Jesus told his disciples that he would send the Holy Spirit to witness to the validity of everything he had taught them.
Ergo: The Holy Spirit is in the messages of Jesus and it is the witness to the messages of Jesus. You can feel it in your heart when you know you know you have done the right thing.
Now re- read what Jesus says:
“Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. Matthew 12: 31-32
To speak against the Holy Spirit is to speak against all of Jesus' messages. (Jesus presented himself as a messenger; one who is sent with a message. To him his message was more important than he himself.)
I am a Red-letter Christian. I study only the words of Jesus. I am suspicious of most other Bible verses. No religion or church believes as I do. (And yes, the Holy Spirit visits me just fine.)

You seemed to answer your own question. What do you expect us to say?
If a person is still worried about his sin, then obviously God has not hardened this person's heart.

If going to heaven means spending eternity with the bigoted god-botherers who preach here then give me hell every time. If gods have any brains, they'll shift down to hell for some intelligent conversation and leave heaven to the Hallelujah!crowd.
