AKC registers only pure bred dogs with known legitimate pedigrees. They are considered the most reputable registry in the US.

I couldn't find an ACP, but I did find ACR, was that what you meant? American Canine Registry will register basically anything. I once was able to register my ex-husband as an official dog through them.

The AKC only registers dogs that meet the proper pedigree requirements. Other reputable registries include the United Kennel Club (UKC), and the national kennel clubs of specific countries, like the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), and the Kennel Club of Great Britian (KCGB).

A plethora of irreputable 'kennel clubs' and registeries have sprung up that were created by irresponsible breeders who refused to comply with the AKC's newer rules regarding DNA'ing of parents and pups. These will egister an hamster as a Shetland sheepdog as long as the check clears. (I know. I tested it.) Of the disreputable registeries, the one that chaps my cheeks the most is the Contenental Kennel Club, who chose their name to benefit directly from our proximity to Canada and the initals of the legitimate CKC, the Canadian Kennel Club. If the dog you are considering is not registered by the AKC, UKC or Canadian KC, contact your breed's national club to see if the registry in question is a legitimate , breed-specific registry, like the AIBC (American-International Border Collie club. If it isn't, I'd NOT buy a dog there.

AKC is the most recognized registry in the US and the most reputable. I have never heard of ACP so I figure it is another one of those registries that popped up to scam people into paying more for their dog.

I don't know but all the pet shops with puppy mill pups in my area have AKC papers so I really wonder why everyone is so hyped on AKC. most puppy mill petshops that I knowof when I lived in NewYork and now in Virginia don't have any other registered accept through AKC
I worked at one pet shop and was told numerous times to swithched things on teh paper say we had an apricot poodle shipped and the papers were for a black I was to change the color and yes AKC accepted them from teh new owners.
It's suppose to mean you have a purebred and AkC is the one that holds most of the dog shows in the USA but that's about it.
Seems funny they require a male dog to be DNA tested to prove it's a pure dog but notteh females so what proof is there really.

AKC means pure bred. ACP will accept any dog pure bred or not. There are no standards. Basically ACP is not worth the paper it's written on.
