Well from my personal experience (2 years and 1/4 top teeth, bottom teeth still working) it was painful because I felt every single teeth in my mouth. I felt how they were moving, and the inner part of my lip got stuck with the braces. It varies depending on the person, my sister was lying on bed for 2 days because of the pain (she's kind of a drama queen), but the only complication for me was to eat. Eat smooth things, like smash potatoes, soup, ice cream, things that don't require to be chewed, you're dentist will probably say you that. When your going to wash you teeth that hurts a little bit, but at the 3rd day yo get used to it. Ask for wax because when talking or singing, as you're not used to have braces, you will have difficulties when talking and will get hurt. You will spit once in a while and your lips will get dry, so use lip stick.

When the dentist is putting the braces you won't feel any pain, I got bored. You just have this thing in your mouth which keeps it open, and maybe you can feel that its too stretch, but that's only the first impression. Then you don't feel nothing, just that he/she is putting things in your teeth, it doesn't hurt. The only thing that can hurt is when the dentist adjusts the wire that joins your teeth. Make sure there is no remaining wire because that can be really painful (at the last teeth, going through the crowns, as my dentist calls it). The crowns, are this metalic structures that is put around the last teeth (previous to the wisdom tooth if you have them), it doesn't hurt that much, but you will feel something. You'll get used to it really fast. Even my sister, the drama queen, adapted really quickly, so anyone can. You can have an aspirin or something like that if it hurts because you can end up with a head-ache.

Though you will be wishing to get them off, the results are extraordinary so cheer up. There are much worst things in life.
You will end up with a beautiful smile. Wish you luck!!

I actually just finished taking my braces off(which I had on for about 1 1/2 years)..

For some people getting braces does hurt but for some it doesnt(first of all, How messed up are ur teeth?? Some people dont need too much messing with in their mouth when getting braces because their teeth arent that bad..but then others need alot of work done..whetther its pulling teeth out to make room or putting in seperators which go inbetween certain teeth to make a tiny bit of room for the metal bands they put on the molars..)...Mine didnt hurt too much..Only like the first two or three days after getting them put on and then A couple Of days each month when they would get tightened..

I say, dont worry about it..In the end it is ALL worth it..

good luck!

To put them on, they use some machine thing with strange-smelling glue. It's a really weird experience, but it's not really painful or scary while they put them on, as long as you don't try to taste the glue or anything. For me, the braces started to hurt a couple of hours after they were put on. That was pretty rough. Definitely take some Tylenol or something as soon as you leave the orthodontist, so then by the time they would have started to hurt the medicine will be working. And don't worry, it's not as bad as you think! Braces are so, so common, and not anything to stress about. Relax, and you'll be fine! Good luck!

This question does not belong in the " performing arts "category.... but Ill tell you that both my daughters had braces, the ones on the front teeth they just glue on, but the ones on the molars hurt when they put them on. Might as well get used to it. Every month or so they will adjust your braces and they will hurt all over again. Worth it though!

It would not injury to actual have the braces put in your mouth. despite the fact that reckoning on the severity of the adjustment that desires to be carried out, it could injury for a number of days to a week after each and every adjustment. once you have braces on you may desire to be careful with the way you look after your the teeth. determine you floss usually, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that that could be a soreness to get the floss for the time of the wires. do not chew gum considering the undeniable fact that could mess issues up in a important way.

why is this in performing arts..
anyways.
getting them put on doesnt hurt at all.
it only hurts when they tighten them, and your teeth shift.
it kills.
it hurt so bad for me, i couldnt eat a thing.
but when your teeth straighten out, it doesnt hurt at all.
i'm in my 6th month of braces, and it doesnt hurt me anymore.
