If there was demand they would be more available.
That is a law of nature in this country!
By the way, I would buy one. Think they are cool from an engineering standpoint. I am attracted to the level of extreme mechanical simplicity that can be reached.
I hope you don't believe that they would reduce emissions though. The electricity has to be generated somewhere. And the manufacturing of the huge lithium batteries requires the use of allot of pretty nasty chemicals.

Americans do control their own destiny and they decided that electric cars are not competative in the market place. This and only this is the reason the electric car died. Now if someone will produce a competative electric car, it will probably do quite well. To be competative, this car must have the following capabilities.

1) It must have a range of at least 200 miles while maintaining all of the performance features listed below.

2) It must seat two adults comfortably

3) It must have capacity to carry enough luggage for these adults for a weekend.

4) It must maintain a comfortable cabin temperature when outside temperatures are as high as 100 deg. F or as low as 0 deg. F.

5) It must be capable of a sustained highway speeds of at least 100 mph (for the full 200 mile range).

6) It must be capable of repeated accelerations from 0-60 in 10 seconds or less (for the full 200 mile range).

7) When it needs to be recharged (after at least 200 miles) in must be take no more than 10 minutes to completely charge 10 minutes.

8) It must be rechargable at numerous convieniently located stations both in town and on the highway.

9) The cost of a full charge must be no more than US$40.00

10) The total purchase price, including tax, title and license, must be no more than US$50,000.

Show me one of these, and I will not only buy one, but invest in it as well.

If a LOT of people actually wanted an electric car the car companies would make them...problem is they won't get enough sales to make any type of profit on a mass produced electric vehicle

Electric cars can never be practical until we begin using nuclear energy (and, not fossil fuels) to produce electricity. As long as the electricity comes from fossil fuels, electric cars still contribute to global warming.

electric powered automobiles have been around for just about 2 an prolonged time. I bear in mind seeing unfastened recharging stations at MBTA commuter parking garages in Cambridge (Mass) interior the previous due Eighties or early Nineties. everyone using an electric powered motor vehicle have been given to park suitable by using the elevators, and could desire to recharge for unfastened. Then it stopped. all of us be conscious of who killed the electrical powered motor vehicle. human beings do in basic terms not care.

The electric car is a great idea but we will need lots of additional power plants to replace fossil fuel vehicles. Should those power plants be fossil fuel driven or nuclear?
