An electric will be easier on a beginner's fingers to play, as it requires less finger strength to fret chords. Also some electrics have a smaller neck than an acoustic, so it's easier to reach for all those strings.

However, if you learn and play an electric exclusively, then decide to start playing acoustic, you may have trouble playing it (that finger strength thing).

A certain blues God I took lessons from told me the best way to start playing was to buy a cheap used acoustic because a) don't require an amp b) they're cheaper, so you're out less cash if you quit and c) the acoustic will build up your finger strength and callouses faster than an electric. Learning on an acoustic makes playing an electric much, much easier, but if you see yourself playing only electric, then that's what you should get. Have fun! :) -Kel

Doesn't matter in the slightest. Probably more expense involved, cos u have to buy the guitar, an amp, lead etc. U could try an electro-acoustic. U wouldn't need an amp at first, but if u got on well with it, u could buy an amp later. An electric also involves carrying more stuff around. Hope this helps.

It probably wouldn't hurt to start with an electric. They generally have lighter action and are easier to play. The drawback of course is that you would need to tote an amp or some portable earhone device when away from your home.

well when i started, i used an acoustic. (this was wen i was little) The acoustic strings are actually largerand i i disliked it so i moved to electric, in which i thrived. Personally id start with acoustic, but if ur fingers r irritated then go to electric
