Guys, why do you think that if a girl thinks she looks average, she is lying?

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. And everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
If the guy is simply trying to be complimentary by saying that you look better than average (whatever that means), accept the compliment graciously.
If he accuses you of lying because you feel that you look average (once again, whatever that means), then I wouldn't waste my time talking to him.
All that having been said, keep in mind that physical beauty usually doesn't last but a beautiful mind can be forever.

In some instances women just might be lying, but if a gal really is a knockout and thinks she's average then she is what i call a keeper!!

I'm not a guy, but I think I know the answer: it's because guys tend to make themselves sound more attractive than they really are - and therefore they think women do that too. Women, however, are often not as self-confident as men, and they therefore don't lie about things like that.
