I've always had trouble developing my abdominals until I found P90X. You've probably seen the infomercials running night and day on TV. P90X(p90x.com) is the extreme home fitness workout program with celebrity trainer, Tony Horton.
All I can tell you is that the program is the REAL DEAL. I'm almost done with my first 90 days and have documented my results at my blog listed below. My waist went from a flabby 36 to a RIPPED 31 in less than 3 months. At 37 years old, I'm absolutely in the best shape of my life.
If you're interested in further information about P90X, I'll be happy to answer your questions via email or Yahoo Messenger.
Best Wishes,

Has very little to do with what you're doing in terms of crunches. Killer abs come from a combination of low body fat and solid core work. Some other great core exercises are decline situps and russian twists (with weight if possible).
Also, it's time to hit the street and run some 200m sprints. These will help immensely. All else being equal, if you run 10 200m sprints 2-3 times a week for a month, you are gonna start to see those abs better. I train my core in a similar way that I train my chest. I work it hard. If I'm not about to cry when I'm done I didn't do it right. Crunches never got the job done for me.

You most likely have a layer of fat covering the muscle you have developed. Try doing some cardio (running, swimming, biking, etc.) at least 5 days a week for a steady 30-45 minutes. This should help you lose the fat on your stomach, which will cause your abs to show more.

I've found that the best workouts for your abs are squats, crunches, and push-ups. The first and last are also good compound exercises and work other muscles as well. Also, you might still have a small layer of fat covering those. Get involved in some cardio to burn those extra calories.

Here's why- I just read this whole article (on Yahoo! in fact) about how it's not the number of reps but how well you do them. They said that 10 excellent crunches is just as effective as 100 crappy ones. Also, the article mentioned that over time the muscles get used to being worked in the same way, so they really don't develop unless you switch out the excercises on a regular basis. You should check out Pilates to vary your workout routine.

Sit ups only work a certain portion of the Abs. They don't call it a 6 pack for nothing...you need more ab exercises.

Because just sit ups aren't going to target all the muscles you need to in order to have those rock hard abs you see. You need to incorporate other exercises to get the look you desire.

1. you can have a layer of fat covering a great set of abs.
2. If your goal is washboard abs and not just good conditioning you may need to go to a weight program. weights can give you good cut and definition.

DIET, DIET, DIET!!!
It's as much about what you eat as it is about how you exercise. Ab exercises and cardio are key components but to get your abs to pop you must eat the right foods. Low fat, low sugar.
