I learnt to cook when first leaving home living in a bedsit with no money. Buy rice, pasta and Potatoes, onions and garlic
a few bottles of dried herbs such as basil (brilliant to bring out the flavour of tomatoes), oregano essential for Italian, Spanish and Greek style meals, parsley or Coriander for everything and you can create meals with or without meat or fish. Oh and don't forget a bottle of virgin olive oil the basis of all your sauces. Once a week buy a small cut of fillet steak and marinate it with olive oil lots of garlic and black pepper and grill or fry, serve with a bit of salad and baked potato, you will feel like you are on holiday!!! Hope this has been help full

I'm a good cook.
Basic cooking is easy - get a basic cookbook (Delia Smith in the UK is good). The main thing is to learn how to fry properly - virtually all recipes need you to fry, even if it is only onions. Don't be scared!
Also, if you cook from fresh, rather than buying tins and microwaved boxes, yoy will save oodles of money. A good chicken curry, using free-range breast meat from a butcher, works out at about £1.50 each, including the rice, and the less complex curries (Balti's) can be cooked in a wok in 25 mins, plus about 10 minutes to do the preparation. This is domestic shoppers price, not Trade price!
Good lucka and happy cooking.

I'm a good cook. I don't have a lot of patience for certain areas of cooking-baking for instance- but I can make just about anything from scratch and not have to follow a recipe. I have a part time catering business and everyone always likes the food!

This hot weather I tend to eat salads - easy to prepare and not that expensive - as the nights get colder I love a take away - only because there is a decent pub next door selling real ales - so I get to try whilst waiting for my chinese/Fish & Chips or whatever.

I am of the "won't cook" camp. My husband does all the cooking in our household. The most I do with food in the kitchen is make a sandwich, toast or zap something in the microwave.

I'm no Rachael Ray, but I consider myself a pretty good cook most days.
And my husband was looking at me weird when I declared I'd teach our son to cook. He will learn, because there has to be more to life than frozen burritos.
