oh coool! im glad for you, ive been to France twice and once to italy here is what i recommend you do during your stay in Europe:
France- eat escargot haha its good youll like it, be careful with pit pocketers keep your money safe, there will be many vendors around so its cool to bring some cash with you but keep it safe, when i was in Paris, there were some vendors that would tie a bracelet on u, and after would make u pay for it, be careful with that...they will try to take your money anyway possible, there is a huge line to go on Effeil tower, so get there early, i also went to Disneyland Paris, its pretty cool, besides that you shoould go to Versailles, it can be lame if your not into arts, the Mona Lisa is always packed with people taking pics, you have to fight your way through to see it, tsk tsk...have fun in France
Italy- eat authentic pizza, i dont know what part of Italy you are going but in Florence i recommend you eat their pizza, there is a street that is full of shops, and they have pizza there, its VERY VERY good! no pizza in U.S. can compare to it, if u go to Pisa take cash there is tons of vendors!when u go to rome wear EXTRA light clothes, because there are many places to see, i kinda feel bad i tooks pants but .....yeah it got really hott, and take water yeah.......
By the way, dont buy any food in the airports, especially in France, when i went i had to wait for my ride, and so i bought a sandwich and a soda, that ended up costing me about $15 (10euros) yeah so dont buy anything in european airports unless u have to lol, and also i would tell u not to exchange your money in european airports, there are plenty of places to exchange your money and youll have more money left....
if you have anymore questions just message me, id be glad to help u out.....
HAVE FUN!!!

In Italy and France they have mountains that are certain of snow round that time, if you go there bring your ski outfit.
If you go to the beach, jeans and sweaters for the colder days, T-shirts ( and maybe even shorts) for the middle of the day out of the wind.
If you go to Paris, or anywhere in the northern part of France, expect days that can be rainy and miserable or below freezing or nice and sunny and allow you to walk in a sweater.
In any case, bring a waterproof (and wind proof) jacket as any place in Europe is likely to get rain any time of the year, and a sweater as the nights are certainly too cold for T-shirts.
The weather is not like NY, as that has a continental climate and Italy and southern France have a Mediterranean climate and northern France a sea climate.

in august in paris i wore shorts and tee shirts, but west of paris it was rainy and cold. i had to purchase umbrella and long sleeve polos. i was told that in that region (brittany) the weather is the same as in london. in paris you will be allowed to sit at an outdoor caffe' only if you consume as a minimum 2 drinks. because i was waiting for the bus, i moved to sit on the sidewalk. at outdoor restaurants, dogs are allowed as long as they stay by the owner's feet. maybe by the time you get there, the dogs will be allowed to also sit at the table. i think that paris is the best city i've ever visited, but i still have to visit many other cities. in naples i entered a caffe' and purchased espresso and pastry but there was no room at the counter. i set outside and the waiter came over to tell me that for sitting outside the cost was double. if i didn't pay the additional money i had to move. that was the reason why the inside the counter was so busy and not a single soul was sitting outside. we do things differently in america. we do it the right way. i know for fact that in the italian turist cities (trap cities) the restaurants have two manues. one is for the locals with very reasonable prices and the other is for the turists. in florence i asked a waiter about this and his answear was that they only work 3 months a year and they must make enough money for the whole year during that short period. because i was not familiar to him (i'm not from florence or from his neighborhood) i was only allowed the order from nemu numero 2. always ask for the price before ordering. when i was a college student and travelling on a budget, i bought panini (sandwiches) and vino from the local deli and ate in the park. have a nice trip. you are about to visit the 2 most beautiful country in europe. ciao

Definitely don't wear shorts in Italy. Most people don't wear them in France either, unless they're tourists. The temperature of these countries is very much like March in the Northeast, so dress accordingly.
