I would say doubtful is a better word than aggravated.

They question him all the more...since they have given birth to him, since he has been their friend.. they watched him grow up... know his sisters...that they know his whole family.

They had such arrogance in who they thought they knew...they has such crippled faith and belief that they could not behold the Truth in Salvation. Even when God was staring them right back in the face. Unbelievable!!

It will be the same for anyone to try to unveil the Gospel to a family member or friend that "knows you" but not the Truth.

Luke Chapter 9
58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.

62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Matthew Chapter 12
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.

47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

1) Jesus performed miracles through the Holy Ghost that these people(Pharisees) could not perform.
2) They denied that Jesus's Wisdom came from the Holy Ghost but thought that wisdom came from books and study in man's learning.

2And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

3Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

4But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

5And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

6And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

Note that in this passage, Jesus is in his hometown, Nazareth. His audience consisted of people who knew him and his family. They were astonished at his wisdom and mighty works because they viewed him as being just like them. And they were envious that Jesus had this wisdom and could do these works. Therefore, they had no belief in Him as having authority or being from God. They focused on his "flesh". They said, "Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?" Instead of hearing and believing, they envied. And being envious, they were aggravated.

"1)why were these people so aggravated?"

I think that they were jealous, and thought more of themselves than they ought to have. Thinking, " If he can do it, then what is wrong with me? I deserve it more than anyone in his family."

"2) why did they question where Jesus got His wisdom and the ability to do mighty works?"

They saw that he was better than they were.

V's 4-6 have the answer. He grew up around them, so they were in disbelief of what was going on. Also their hearts were hardened, as Jesus told them when they saw the miracles, and kept asking for a sign. Jesus gave them the sign of Jonah. Most still wouldn't believe. The Jews were expecting a warier, not a gentle person. And when Jesus offered that He was the Son of God, the Jews condemned Him to death for blasphemy, again from the hardness of their hearts. I believe if Jesus had done something like calling down fire, they wouldn't have believed. Look how quickly Israel went into idolatry when leaving Egypt...and they had just experienced one of the greatest miracles!

These people were not looking for someone like the son of a carpenter to be the Savior and King. They wanted it to be someone high and mighty in the eyes of man. Today if a man or woman is call to Preach or Teach the Word of God, the first thing people start looking at is their past and what they were growing-up.

One would think the Nazarene townspeople who recognized Jesus as He was growing up, would also recognize His divinity. But no!, in such great irony, the people of Nazareth were the first ones to scorn Him, for appearing to be a false-God-like character, for he was just a mere carpenter who in those days were known for sculping idols and other false Gods with wood (Isaiah 44:9-20 KJV). And how more ironic is it that the One they falsely accuse of being a false-God is actually God incarnate Himself walking around conducting great miracles in the town of Nazareth! I think the lesson in this scripture hints that we can only truly see God, through Jesus, if our spiritual eyes are opened. And in this dispensation, God gives us this opportunity through the infilling and indwelling of the Holy Spirit, as a result of sincere humble surrender and repentance to Jesus Christ.

They saw Jesus as only Joesph's son. They recognized Mary and Joesph had a number of kids after Jesus was born. Therefore Jesus couldn't be who He claimed to be.(didn't stay a virgin).

That's why today instead of judging people today we as Christians need to listen to the spirit of God and not look upon the person as to whom he is we may miss out upon so blessings from God the Bible says you shall know them by their fruits and it has to be Gods fruit, spiritual, and the Bible said that he will come to you in the form of 2 to 3 witnesses,.he will confirm it to you.

Because of their pride; they did not want to acknowledge the authority of Jesus. Man has this same prideful heart to day.
