See I have a job offering to babysit two kids. Ones' 3 and is a girl, and ones' 6 and is a boy. I've never babysat before, but I really need the money and I love taking care of kids. But since I've never done it, I don't know what to charge, Well I read this site that said ur supposed to charge 6 dollars an hour + .50 per each additional child. What do you think?

I've always disliked being asked to provide "salary requirements" when I apply for a job *smile*...so I don't do it...I ask them what the position pays! That's what I would recommend. $6.50 per hour for two kids might be good, but what if they are willing to pay $10 per hour???...you'd lose that money!...and want if they can only afford to pay $5 per hour, are you still interested? ...and the conditions may affect the money offered. A couple that lets you raid the fridge, buy pizza for dinner, and talk on the phone long distance after the kids are in bed might pay less per hour, but you still get benefits! A very LONG babysitting session (overnight for example or if you have to supervise bedtime, or meals) might be worth more (or less) per hour than playing with the kids one afternoon while the mom goes shopping!

Babysitting rates also vary for other reasons...babysitting in a rich neighborhood or in a big city usually pays more than babysitting in a small town or poorer neighborhood. For example, in Denver, $10 per hour was typical...in the richer neighborhoods in my current town, $8 per hour is the norm, while in my neighborhood, the typical rate is $5 to $6!

My advice is to ask the parents what they pay for babysitting...if they ask what you think is fair, tell them that you aren't sure because of your inexperience (you could even mention the numbers you got from here and say you don't know what's normal for your area!)...then decide if you're willing to do it for the amount they offer!

Babysitting pay is never going to be what it should be based on the responsibility that you are taking on. I would ask around the neighborhood to find out what others are charging. If you are babysitting for a few hours here and there, that is different than if you are providing daycare all day long.

My aunt babysits and she makes $10 per hour and she babysits 3 children. I believe she makes a straight per hour wage, there is no extra for more than one child. I think $6 an hour is a little on the low side by today's standards.

no I think you should charge alittle more since your taking care of two kids. the six year old can pretty much take care of himself at this stage, like go to the bathroom, tell you whens he hungry and he knows how to communicate with you better than a three year old. now if this three yr old is not potty trained ( or even if she is )you still have to make her food for her and three year olds are more responsibility so I think with that in mind between $8.00 and $9.00 and hour, and you should probably consider taking some kind of CPR class since you are dealing with kids. it's always better to be safe than sorry. you can usually take these classes at your health dept. good luck!

We pay our babysitters $10 a hour if watching all three of our kids; $8 an hour if two or one.

We live in Dubuque, Iowa and have never heard what we pay is too low or too high.

That sounds about right. Since you have no actual experience, that is a good starting point. If you are expected to do anything else, Id charge a little more.

I am not sure the exact price you would charge a babysitter. But I suggest you contact a real babysitter and ask what they would usually charge a babysitter.
