I only got 4th place out of six people in the judo tourny i went to.
I won my first,
lost my second,
won my third,
lost my fourth on injury.
But... the person i fought fourth was the guy who i beat in my first match... and he finished ahead of me. its not fair. should i have gotten third?

I am a retired fighter and competitor now and all I can tell you is that things are never fair, there are always judges that score poorly or you feel cheated or something.

This will never stop. IF you can prove a legitimate error as i did once when I had not lost ONE match and they had me fighting for 3&4 th place not 1st and 2nd. I had already beaten 1 of the 2.

I said something being a Sensei myself and they checked the records out and realized their error and i was now figting for 1st and 2nd.

SO unless you have some evidence of wrong doing, good luck you will always find matches that seem unfair to you. you just have to live with it, accept it and let it make you stronger not become a whiner.

It sounds like they did a round robin since there were only six people. Ultimately this is the fairest way across the board but many tournaments give bies which means four of you would have had to go first and the losers would have been entirely out and the winners would have been paired with the two that got the bies and then down to two winners out of the four remaining and those two would have gone for first and second and the two losers for third and fourth. By doing bies you may have been unlucky and out immediately after your first loss.

It all depends on how they gave out places. If it was by points, record or something else. I've never done judo so I don't know the normal way they do it.

I do know when I used to play baseball in a tourney we were in a 4 team pool and finished 2-1 along with 2 other teams and didn't get to go into the final round because of run differential. So it all depends on how they decide tiebreakers.

Out of all of the things you said I really do think you should have gotten 3rd or 2nd. Anyway Great Job!

ask your judo instructor on the rules of the tournament as he or she has been there

I don't know what system they used. If that was his only loss, it is reasonable.
