I think the ignorance has more to do with laziness, than "brainwashing". People just don't want to sit down and read something longer than a magazine article, and learn a string of new vocabulary on the way like "alleles", "genetic drift", "RNA", "amino acids", etc. I'm sure some like the "conspiracy theory" appeal that creationism tries to paint too.

The only requirement of believing in evolution is understanding it first, you don't need to have "faith", you just understand the truth.
There is a difference between Facts, opinions and beliefs, Facts require proof, the latter two do not, as they are neither true or false, they are an idea formed in your mind after gathering information and putting it together.

If we are going to include all 'belief systems' - by God's grace I was not brainwashed by the public schools into believing evolution and abiogenesis.

im still coming out of my brainwash.
since i was 4 i was told i needed god. i was told when i was 5 that if i died and did not ask jesus for forgiveness i would go to hell where i would be tortured with fire for eternity..

Well learning Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Geology is way harder than "God did it" so probably not.
