Does any body have a good remedy or treatment for bruised ribs. My lower ribs on my left side got bruised by a misguided punch. What would make them feel better?

Tape them up with athletic tape thats what I always did. Keep pressure on it but not too much of course.

this will help some. other than that all you can do is deal with it and if it is real bad have it xrayed but if just a bruise it will heal. Use tylenol for it also helps with inflammation.

Good luck

Ribs are a painful deal, not much the doctors can do for you either. I’ve had it all many times – Bruised, Broken, Separated (this is the worst and slowest heal), and Cartilage Separations. Your description sounds like between bruised and broken.

Ice has not worked all that well for my ribs. Obviously sedation in some form can limit the pain you experience.

About the only thing that I’ve found some relief with is a Chiropractic adjustment. The pain from the underlying injury will still be there, but if there is any misalignment at least you can take the structural pressure off.

You are just paying your dues with that pain. Next time keep your elbows in tight and focus on blocking and defense as your primary objectives.

Ice will cut down on the inflammation and pain and heat will promote good healing. Alternate between the two, (8 minutes of ice and 10-12 minutes of heat; make the last application ice if you are trying to go to sleep and the pain is keeping you awake). Do this for the next 24 hours and the pain should subside some if they are only bruised. They will be tender to the touch for a few weeks as that area really takes a lot of time to heal so I would not do any contact sparring and just do easy gentle work outs and stretching. Anything fast or vigorous and they will probably let you know they are still sore.

Ice and an over the counter pain releiver. Take it easy for a few days too.

Ice and rest (it could be days, it could be weeks, depending on how severe it is), while you rest you could still work out (weights and such)
