I don't think I'd be hanging a nice piece of electronics above a fire place, unless it was one of those electric ones. There is always some smoke that wafts up from the fire place, so my TV would not be up there. You asked, and that's how I feel.

Heat is the number one enemy of any electronics. If the fireplace is gas, and blows the heat downward, okay. If not, I would not do it. Heat, and smoke build up can cause severe damage to not only the display, but to the chassis, as well.

It relies upon on the tempature around the situation you % carry it on. verify with handbook on working tempature. come across a qualified contractor or save that does installs like Bay Bloor Radio and ask them. maximum 9th & 10th gen. plasmas have a great selection of opereting temps i'e' Panasonic, Pioneer.

Almost certainly OK if the TV is not directly exposed to intense heat or, more importantly, to smoke.
If in real doubt check with the instructions (or with the manufacturer) as to recommended limits.

It is unsafe and would most likely damage the TV. Plasma TV by design generates a lot of heat. Additional heat will cause the TV to degrade and the picture to darken. Too much heat will result in a dead TV.

The only way to do so is if its a vented fireplace. If not and it radiates alot of heat upward then it will. You will increase the internal temperature and cause many internal problems. Just see when the fireplace is on if it does. If it does so, dont risk it, but if it stays room temperature, your fine.

The killer will be the heat.
IF the heat above the fireplace is the same as room temp then there is no problem.
IF the heat rises and causes that space to get hot, don't do it.
Most recommendations are DON'T.
