If your are hooking the DVD to the TV, why not just use the component out on the DVD and hook to the component of your TV? Why would you use a product that adds nothing to picture and degrades the one you would get.

Unless you are trying to bypass some form of DRM, but I am not sure why you would use this this way. I don't think it will work if that is your goal.

I quote from the site referenced in the first respnse:

"Designed to take a TV-out signal from certain video cards to a component display or to connect any component-out device such as a DVD player or satellite box to an LCD projector."

Note that it says "certain video cards" not a DVD player.

The reference given in the response above says the cable is for:

"DVI-I Male to Component RGB HDTV capable Female"

There are several types of DVI, and unless your DVD player supports the right ones (DVD-A or DVD-I), those converters won't work. Most all DVD players are DVD-D only.

From Wikipedia:

"As well as digital signals, the DVI connector includes pins providing the same analog signals found on a VGA connector, allowing a VGA monitor to be connected with a simple plug adapter. This feature was included in order to make DVI universal, as it allows either type of monitor (analog or digital) to be operated from the same connector.

The DVI connector on a device is therefore given one of three names, depending on which signals it implements:

* DVI-D (digital only)
* DVI-A (analog only)
* DVI-I (digital & analog)"
