A friend of mine ask me to go to sumone's wedding as her date. I'm not interested in her or anything, I'm just there as a friend-date.

I want to meet other single ladies there but with this settup, it send out the wrong message to others. I can't leave my friend and walk around to ask for phone #s because I'll look like an ******!

Sounds like you are in a pickle.

But during the reception, you are expected to socialize. Just walk around and talk to both guys and girls. Ask about how they know the couple, etc. Less obvious that way, and you simply look like you are being polite and social, not just hitting on random girls. Besides, it will be good for you to talk to many different people and make more friends. If someone ask why you are there, be honest about it and say that you are just there to keep your friend company so that she didn't have to be there alone (you don't have to spend all of your time with her, just some). Eventually you can talk to some girl that you think is cute. If you are hitting it off, casually turn back around and ask for her e-mail as you are walking away so that you can communicate later.

As long as you and your friend are clear that this is a friend-only date, then tell her up front that you'd like to take the opportunity to meet people (meaning women). Make NO couple-like gestures, have her introduce you as her friend, make coversation that lets others know you are single. People do this all the time; it is NOT a big deal and you will not look like a jerk.

Maybe help her find a guy there too, but you should probably talk to her about what you want first so she doesn't feel used.
