A lip piercing does not hurt much at all during the actual piercing process. I would relate it to a shot. The healing process is when it hurts the most, and that is all depending on your body and how it reacts to the foreign object. When I had my lip pireced it swelled up for about three weeks and my lip felt like I had been beaten with a bat. On the other hand my tongue was completely healed within two days or so. I would plan on it hurting substantially while it heals for a couple weeks. It might not, but you dont want to think it isn't and be surprised when it does. If you want it bad enough though, the pain is well worth it!!! Good luck

I have a vertical labret. I have to say, it was a really interesting feeling. My piercer inserted the needle just below the bottom of my lip and I could feel it working its way through my lip like a steel worm burrowing up from the ground. When the needle got to the tougher skin at the top of my lip, I could feel it strain and then "pop" through the skin, like if you took a ballpoint pen and tried to push it through a deflated balloon.
For the next day or so, it just felt like someone had punched me in the mouth and split my lip open. If it swelled, it wasn't enough to visibly notice. I would bump it with my teeth sometimes when I was eating, but I never bit it, and I was obsessive about cleaning it after I ate anything (not washing it just making sure no food was there) after about a week there was no pain and I started changing it out to a retainer for work.

Do you pluck your eyebrows? Ever popped a pimple? Well, if you have you've probably experienced the pain of a lip piercing. While everyone is different, that in my experience (I have three lip piercings) and in the experience of my clients is about what it has been compared to. As long as you have a quality piercer that gives you appropriatly sized jewelry (it will be 1-2 sizes too big to allow for swelling, you can have it downsized in 4-6 weeks), and does a properly placed pierce, you will be ok. Just make sure to follow the aftercare your artist gives you, (and resist the urge to play with it, or put your fingers on it in general) and all will be fine. If you want it go for it! You're going to look beautiful!

The actual piercing feels like any other...like a really hard, sharp pinch. But afterward, I think because it's a muscle and it's always moving, it gets swolen and feels really bruised and painful for about a week (not like an ear-piercing which only hurts for a minute). It feels like someone hit you in the mouth. You have to keep ice on it so it doesn't swell past the size of the ring and you have to keep turning the ring so it doesn't get infected. And the swelling and the ice make you drool a lot and it's hard to eat for that first week. But after that, it's fine.

It doesn't hurt very bad. The initial pain of the needle burns a little, but afterwards my lip felt like I had a fat lip. It stung and was really sore, but it goes away pretty quick. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd say a 4.

well, it really does depend... just because it hurts someone, doesn't mean it'll hurt someone else. but make sure the person doing it is certified to do it. you don't wanna get ANY infection. something like, TB, AIDS, STAF, (any blood infection) people who are certified BY LAW must clean ALL utensils. Also, go to a place where you feel comfortable at. Like, would you choose to go to a run-down tattoo shop downtown not exactly known for it's cleanliness, or would you go to, say, Claire's? Be aware of the possible outcomes of this. In my opinion, there are more bad outcomes than good outcomes. About the pain, it's gonna hurt. but I can't tell you how much because that's up to you. I hope you realize that you use that lip everyday, so it's gonna hurt for a while. maybe up to a month. (eating, talking, kissing, etc.) How about you go for ear piercing instead? Also, when ppl look at you on the street, in class, at work, etc. if they don't know you, more than likely, they wouldn't want to get to know you because of the lip ring. Yes, they shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but that's how ppl are. Most ppl don't wanna get out of their comfort zone. Remember that!

I got a labret piercing and it hurts a little but not much. What my piercer did, was mark both sides of my lip to find the site and the exit hole...and he pierced the hole in the front then felt around with the needle to get the back. So it was like two "pops" I felt.....wasn't too bad though. I don't wear it anymore.
