I am traveling on an airplane and I am planning on taking my 10 pound shih tzu.... will the airline allow me to take her on the plane with me, and will they charge me extra?

Call your airline to find out about their policies and accommodations for pets. It is definitely safest to fly with a cat or dog small enough to carry into the cabin. The carrier must fit underneath the seat just like all carry-on baggage. Some airlines restrict the number of carry-on pets per flight so book in advance and reconfirm your reservation 24 to 48 hours in advance. There is usually a per flight charge (approx. $50+ but check with your airline).

Small pets traveling in the passenger cabin
Many companies make soft-sided carriers that have mesh flaps, shoulder straps and outside pockets. We simply pack tickets, wallets, etc. into the side pockets of the carriers so that we have only one carry-on to contend with. You may want to limit the amount of additional carry-on baggage you take. Even a 9 lb. cat ends up feeling like a bowling ball when being lugged through the airport!

Your pet will have to remain in the carrier for the entire flight so it's best if he's used to sleeping inside the carrier at home. His own cushion, with its familiar scents, will make him less anxious.

You need to contact the airline. Continental will allow either a cat or a small dog to be carried in the cabin as long as the pet is under or around 10 pounds, in a soft-sided carrier (like Sherpa pet) so the pet can be tucked under your seat, and up to date on shots - you can ask your vet for a travel tag that shows when the pet's last shots were.
The airline usually will allow 2 animals per flight, and hopefully, your little dog will stay nice and quiet. Don't feed her the day before the flight, keep her water to a minimum if the flight is a long one (because you can't walk her in the plane, but pack either a wee-wee pad or an adult human pad in her carrier in case).
The airline will charge a fee for the pet, but if your pet travels well, it's a small price, and she'll be with you the entire time.

As a bit of traveler etiquette, always let the people sitting next to you know you have a little dog, in case they are allergic; they or you can ask to be re-seated elsewhere on the plane.

They will charge you extra...I believe it is around 50 dollars but I could be wrong. 10 pounds is pretty small so if you have the right carrier you can take her with you directly on the plane and put her under the seat in front of you. I would call the airline for details and regulations.

Most airlines will let the dog travel with the person in the cabin if it meets certain requirements. They do charge for this, around $75.00 which is cheaper than shipping one. You can go to Delt Pets First or Continental airlines sites or call their 800 number for information on this.

Yes, but she will have to be in a carrier and REMAIN in the carrier. I don't believe there is any additional charge - she would just be your 'carry-on' luggage - BUT check with the individual airline to be sure. She will have to go under the seat in front of you - right by your feet, so make sure the carrier is small enough. She will probably fall asleep soon after take off.

If she can fit in an airline-approved carrier under the seat, you can take her on with you. Otherwise, she would need to be in the cargo hold of the plane - something I wouldn't recommend, especially for a very small dog that is susceptible to heat and cold (and right now it is HOT).

You should contact the airline, but most airlines will not have a problem with a small dog that size in a travel crate as long as it is quiet.

Yes you can take her. The crate that she will have to ride in will have to be able to fit under your seat. The charge use to be $80.00 but not sure what it is now. You should check with the airline that you are flying with.

they probably will allow u... but i wouldnt advise taking ur dog because u would have to fill out many forms and deal with security and u would have to do this ahead of time,, this is usually a very stressfull process but if u decide too they will prob only charge a 100 dollar fee for handling
