Jesus' divinity as god/lord, does not matter at all....

Is that how the christian sect determines whether or not a religion is christian?

"Christianity" is not a sect. It is a religion, which in turn has many different sects (aka "denominations"). As for how some sects define what makes one a "Christian" obviously they have their own bias.

The one thing all Christian sects have in common is that they're specifically based around Jesus as described in the Gospels. That is a component that all Christian sects have, and that no non-Christian religions have. So to take an objective, pragmatic view, that's what defines "Christianity".

The majority of Christianity will say you are not really a Christian if you do not believe Jesus is God or divine, but that is not the essence of Christ's teachings: Christ's teachings, in their simplest forms, revolve around the belief in God the Father who sent his son to die for the sins of mankind, the necessity for belief in and following of both

No that is not enough. Yes you have to know all of that.. But to be a Christian, you have to live your life as one also.

The most precious possession a Christian has is his personal relationship with God. (Psalm 25:14; Proverbs 3:32)

Prove Bible truth to yourself. Our sense of identity as servants of Jehovah can weaken if it is not solidly based on knowledge of the Scriptures. (Philippians 1:9, 10) Every Christian—young or old—needs to prove to his own satisfaction that what he believes is indeed the truth as found in the Bible. Paul urged fellow believers: “Make sure of all things; hold fast to what is fine.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

Strong faith is built on knowledge. “Faith follows the thing heard,” stated Paul. (Romans 10:17) What did he mean by that? He meant that by feeding on God’s Word, we build our faith and confidence in Jehovah, his promises, and his organization. Asking honest questions about the Bible can lead to reassuring answers. Furthermore, at Romans 12:2, we find the advice of Paul: “Prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Just how can we achieve that? By gaining “the accurate knowledge of the truth.” (Titus 1:1) Jehovah’s spirit can help us to comprehend even difficult subjects. (1 Corinthians 2:11, 12) We should pray for God’s help when we are having problems understanding something. (Psalm 119:10, 11, 27) Jehovah wants us to understand his Word, believe it, and obey it. He welcomes honest questions asked with the right motive.

Seek to please God, not man. It is only natural to define our identity in part by belonging to a group. Everyone needs friends, and being included makes us feel good. “Do not model yourselves on the behaviour of the world around you,” warned the apostle Paul. (Romans 12:2, The Jerusalem Bible) Jehovah provides the inner strength we need in order to combat any outside pressure to conform.—Hebrews 13:6.

We have to live our lifes like Christians also.

Yes you must call yourself a Christian to be a Christian, but also is nice to do not be a hypocite to your calling and cause others to fail; Luke 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
Also you must believe the words of the Bible are true and correct and follow the Bible not men; Romans 3:4
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

No my fair lady for James 2:19 says even the Demons believe...... & they are not Christians are they, Its way more to it than that. Its all based on WORKS James 2:26 says faith without works is dead.
You will know the true religion by its works..
Matt 7:22,23.
Read & reread these scriptures carefully pray about it & keep seeking & you will find. (Matt 7:7)

Yeah. Why don't you start there? Jesus has shown that He goes to the level of those who trust Him, on any level. He can teach you more later, but trust Him. Let the other stuff follow, just don't forget to remain a thinking individual. Don't turn off your brain.

Believe in Him and be saved, and more will be added unto you. That's what He said. And we are to trust Him for what He said. Period.

properly, in the beginning, there have been eyewitness debts (the gospels) to his resurrection. it would be impossible to make a quick answer as to why i think those debts. Suffice to assert that I incredibly have study up on it, and that i discover the reasoning to be valid. One stable e book approximately it incredibly is Letters From a Skeptic with the help of Dr. Gregory A. Boyd. 2d, I incredibly have experienced a private relationship with God with the help of accepting Jesus... i've got experienced miracles, i've got had prayers spoke back, and that i see the information of God in my existence daily.

back when I was in the church I was taught that you also must believe that he died, then rose from the dead.

Jesus did not die for your sins, that is the point of the resurrection. You cannot kill that which is eternal.
Jesus was prepared to sacrifice his mortal body, as a show of faith that death of the flesh does not mean death of the soul.
Death of the soul comes from thinking of one'self as simply a body, and considering life's purpose as serving one's own needs for power, wealth, lust/sex, knowledge, and possesions.
Being alive is about discovering one's true self, and that one's true need is to re-discover a relationship with God. Jesus was prepared to sacrifice his body in order to serve penance to God (sacrificing one's body this way is metaphorically sacrificing one's senses and one's desire for selfish sense gratification).

Although Jesus was sinless, He meant his actions to serve as an example of what lengths a sinner should go to serve penance. This is what the phrase 'Jesus died for our sins' means. Jesus died to show us how a sinner should face penance, even by sacrificing one's own body, rather than to deny faith in an everlasting soul and an everlasting God.

You will know a true christian by someone who;
-Gives up what he might want so someone else may have it.
-Control's his/her desires, and only to take what one needs to work, and no more.
-Does not savagely moan about losing, nor does not brag and proudly prance around after winning.
-Who can trust themselves when others doubt them, but take allowances for their doubting too.
-Who can wait but not be tired of waiting,
-Or being hated, doesn't give way to hating
-And yet does not look to good, nor talk too wise.
-A christian shall watch the things he gave his life to broken,
And stoop to build them up again with wornout tools
-A christian will hold on when there is nothing left within him,
Except the will which says to him, hold on.
-A christian can talk to crowds but keep his virtue,
-Or walk with kings, but keep the common touch.
-A christian see's not a person by their body, but by the nature of one's soul as yet unleased.
-A christian see's the goal as work, rather than a goal of winning reward for work.
-A christian loves all soul's equally, even those whom are clouded with ignorance (as the farmer will chase a lost sheep, no matter how far it has wondered).

-A Christian will not: Envy for what other's have, or delight in cruelty, nor will a Christian show a hard heart. No Christian should show violence to living creatures. A christian should avoid anger, greed and absorbtion in selfish thought. A christian should avoid deceit, disrespect, egotistical pride, mental delusion and uncleanliness. A christian should not endulge in vandalism, or harming others willingly.

-A christian should:
*Help others,
*Serve one's superiors and elders.
*Give to charity in secret, without claiming piousness.
*Be involved in only constructive development.
*engage in truthfullness, cleanliness and simplicity, showing forgivness and mercy.
*A christian should engage in duties according to one's qualification and gift (for it is better to do one's own duty badly than to perfectly engage in anothers task).
*A christian should renounce that which he/she has no need of, and yet not endulge in sense deprevation (inaction is a sin).
*A christian will enjoy hearing the scriptures, or remembering the activities of God. A christian might offer respectfull prayers to search his spirit, or serve the lord by helping others find themselves without lecture or disrespect.

This is how you might tell someone is a christian, not by the badge upon their clothing, nor by their presence in a church, or their devotion to doctrine.
A true christian does not believe that he can be perfect, nor that he should give up trying, nor give up learning how. It is not enough to believe Jesus died for your sins, one must also have a will to follow Jesus' example, even if sometimes failing.
No arm chair christian will enter heaven, nor still further the kingdom of God. That is my opinion ;-)
