I'm with you. Women in Islam is granted dower, and in the Western cultures she pays. In Islam she has the right to terminate the marriage by divorcing herself or Khul'a, while there; Divorce is subject to court decision.

Women in Islam have their own patrimony "independent financial status" while in the West she was subject to "Coverture" loosing her name, financial status, and Identity according to this. While Islam abolished coverture 1500 years ago, The West abolished it 20 years ago.

Woman in islam is poreserved. as a "Precious thing". while other cultures treat her and her body in the meanest form "A beautiful animal".

I saw a show on the discover channel where they interviewed a Muslim man. He said that he had beaten his sister because she was raped, and that he did it to make sure it wouldn't happen again. All the while he had a smirk on his face. I don't know if that's true or not, but that seems a lot worse than what you described. And aren't Muslims the ones that "circumcise" 9 year old girls with a piece of glass and no anesthesia? I could be wrong, if I am then you should speak to the ones giving out the false information on Islam. Just like most of the false info you gave. Women are not FORCED to wear make up. Women are not FORCED to show their legs. Not ALL husbands run off on their wives. You can't generalize on what a few men do. If that was the case then I would have to assume that a few Muslim extremists represent all of Islam. And I'm sure you don't want that to be the case.

Salam slikom brother
Alhamdulilah, I'm happy and very proud to be a Muslimah, unfortunately a lot of people think that Muslim women are oppressed, the majority of European and American converts to Islam are women, why would they covert if Islam they oppressed them,
In a truly Islamic society women have the following rights in Islam:
1. The right and duty to obtain education.

2. The right to have their own independent property.

3. The right to work to earn money if they need it or want it.

4. Equality of reward for equal deeds.

5. The right to express their opinion and be heard.

6. The right to provisions from the husband for all her needs and more.

7. The right to negotiate marriage terms of her choice.

8. The right to obtain divorce from her husband, even on the grounds that she simply can't stand him. (pls note that God deeply frowns upon divorce as a solution unless there is hardly any other alternative but it does not mean that men have more right to divorce their wives than women do.)

9. The right to keep all her own money (she is not responsible to maintain any relations).

10. The right to get sexual satisfaction from her husband.

11. custody of their children after divorce.

12. to refuse any marriage that does not please them

and more...

So how they be oppressed

Islam does not opress women, it is men who do.

For instance, before I got married, I had great faith in Islam because it provided me with all the answers and gave me satisfaction as a woman.

Since marriage, however, i still have my faith but perhaps it is not as strong because my other half does not support me enough for the fact that i cover myself up etc. I know i am doing it for Allah etc. but it would help to have a supportive partner who encourages this instead of pulling back. It has been very hard for me, and i think some men are opressive when they know they can get away with it. A true, practising muslim can never opress.

i have read and understand islam, especially this side of it.

according to muslims it gave the women a gift, of her being protected at home,
muslims view is that other ladies (mainly non muslim, or live in western countries) arent protected

islam does not opress women, if u read betwen the lines, it favours the women more than the man, but some men might feel left out, so "alla" gave them the right to protect their women, feed the family... so that is why everyone is equal.. not equal in the same things... but equal in their own way

that is why we say nowadays everyone must be good at something

if u agree wiv me gimme a thumbs up :D

So...

What of the Religious police? And the fact in the Koran the woman is the cow, she is for breeding, nurchuring and for slaughter when old and haggard. Also how about the 5 wife thing? I bet that really makes her feel special. "Oh i do love u dear, but im spending the night with Sarah. Yes i will be loading her up like a lil hoe. But of course i love you"

The principal tenets of Mohammedanism are laid down in the Koran. As aids in interpreting the religious system of the Koran we have: first, the so-called "Traditions", which are supposed to contain supplementary teachings and doctrine of Mohammed, a very considerable part of which, however, is decidedly spurious; second, the consensus of the doctors of Islam represented by the most celebrated imams, the founders of the various Islamic sects, the Koranic commentators and the masters of Mohammedans jurisprudence; third, the analogy, or deduction form recognized principles admitted in the Koran and in the Traditions. Mohammed's religion, known among its adherents as Islam, contains practically nothing original; it is a confused combination of native Arabian heathenism, Judaism, Christianity, Sabiism (Mandoeanism), Hanifism, and Zoroastrianism.

i am not Muslim, but have been reading about it because my boyfriend is Muslim. I have to say, they the more i learn about it - the more beautiful i find it. I am very old-fashioned at heart; and I appreciate the respect between men and women, and I see that many women of Islam are treated so much better than most women outside of Islam. Those that say Islam oppresses women just don't understand it. :)

AMERICA WAS ATTACKED AND IT WASNT SOLDIERS THEY ATTACKED IT WAS THE INNOCENT ! THAT IS THE MUSLIM BELIEF. COUNT ME OUT. WASN'T THAT OPPRESSION AND MURDERING COWARDS?
for all those poor sisters in Afghanistan and the Taliban makes them wear that covering. that cant read have not right not protected die young from childbirth diseases and hunger. educated, protected and sheltered women you speak of are in the minority. the majority have no access to a computer, if they can read at all, i have been with the red cross in these countries . it is heartbreaking. ask those muslim sisters how happy they are. they would rather a woman and her children to starve than allow her to work or have a education................... if you people of muslim faith are real. practice what you preach and help the oppressed and abused sisters and children that are.... look at the history channel the news check with the red cross go live in one of those oppresive muslim countries and see how you likeit go live in Iran and Iraq or afganstan when saddam was in power or now even. thumb me down i dont care , it is the sad truth..........
no thank you!
