When I submitted my passport renewal application back in May to Passport Canada, I didn't have travel plans. Now I am scheduled to travel on July 28 (3 weeks from the time this question was asked), but the Passport Canada web site says that they are getting a record number of applications, and it could take up to 15 weeks to process my application. (!!) Since my passport doesn't expire until October anyways, I would like to get my application back again and reapply when I have come back from my trip.
A CBC news article recently mentioned there is a 1-800 to get it returned, but for some odd reason they didn't give the number. Does anyone know the number, or know how I can get my passport back in order to travel on July 28?

1 800 567-6868 is listed at their website. I recall a question on here where someone commented they weren't answering the phone, but it doesn't hurt to give it a shot. That's a tough one. I imagine the first thing they do is, void your old passport then start to process the new one. BUT, it is also likely sitting unopened in a stack somewhere.
I feel your pain. I did mine earlier this year. They said delays were 9 weeks and changed it to 10 weeks after mine went in. I heard something after 12 weeks. I got a receipt and my birth certificate back. Then got the passport after 14 weeks.

Yes all of your original documents will be returned. Including 1 passport photo. They will arrive separately.
