People who experience abuse at the hand of one or more officers of the law often times do not report the incident. Why?
For the same reasons that some women who are raped do not report the rape.
They fear retaliation and or the officer that they report it to will treat them as though they had it coming or they lying.
Many of the questions that are answered by law enforcement officers in Yahoo answers regarding police brutality/misconduct proves that this is in fact the case.
The law enforcement officer does not answer the questions with supportive or helpful advice but rather with threats and inuendos.
I am sure that there are many police persons who are good honest cops that truly want to do what they have sworn to do and that they do their job in a ethical manner.
I am also sure that there are people who have lied about experiencing abuse at the hand of a cop.
But, does this mean that we are to believe that every cop is innocent and every complaint against a cop is a lie?

If we are to believe or to feel like we can't trust each other when it comes to reporting the abuse that was handed out by a law enforcement officer because someone else lied then why is it that people still believe every cop is innocent of charges made against them?
We have plenty of evidence pointing to police who lie, cheat, steal, rape, murder and mame our neighbors.
Still some choose believe that if a person makes a claim against an officer that they are lying. that some how the victim was asking for it, perhaps because the victim has a criminal record or maybe they were in the process of commiting a crime.
So does the same rule apply to the young lady at a night club who is dressed provocativley and she is raped?
or how about the prostiutes who killed by the green river killer.
I believe Gary Ridgeway made the statement " I was doing you guys a favor" when he was asked why he killed so many young women and girl who happened to be prostitutes.

Police are intitled to use like force with like force.
If I play my radio loudley & the cops are called , I do not answer my door because either I cant hear them or maybe I just don't want to does that mean its necessary to kick my door in and shoot me?
I understand that the police are under a tremendous amount of pressure by the public to protect us, they are also under pressure from their peers and employers.
I would not want to be a cop!
Honestly I could not handle it and because of that fact I chose a different profession.
The police who are out on our streets doling out their own punishments need to be locked up next to the guy that went into a court room and shot and killed the SOB that raped his daughter.
A badge a gun and a uniform should not shield you from the laws you swore to uphold.
I pray that good hardworking ethical police that are out on our streets providing a safer place for our families recieve the attention and promotions they deserve.
Lock up the rest!

Who in there "right mind' would even consider comparing the hot vendor short changing someone to a bunch of cops ( I say bunck of cops as in more than one) kicking a 90 + yr. old womans door and shooting her. They had the wrong address, kicking in her door and scaring the crap out of her would have been forgivable but shooting her to death!
C'mon now was she reaching for her weapon?
There are unfortunatley more than a couple of "bad apples" and the good ones need to be recognized enough so as to make it easier and less threatening for the good ones to arrest the as* holes!
Let's face it, the bullies run the playground.

bbasingal, You are very observant, you MUST be a cop.
The point I made was that ...
because I could not handle the stressors of being a cop I CHOSE a different profession. As a whole lot of others should have done but did not.
Maybe if they were becoming a cop for the right reasons they would not be causing so much unrest in society.
Crooked Bas*ards!

Numerous cases of civil rights violations by cops go unreported. They know who they are abusing. Often they pick on the poor, the illiterate, the minorities and the ignorants.
That is why I love it when out of the blue, one of those files a grievance and demands correction to the wrongdoing!
Visit the ACLU website... Cops hate it when citizens learn of it

I truly think that most cops come in honest but the temptation is too much, drugs, cash etch...Some think they are above the law..But I know a lot of abuse is not reported..Even sexual abuse fear of retaliation..The world is looking at things side ways..I want to believe that there is a WHOLE LOT of GOOD than evil..I want to believe that the glass is half full..Your case I would only be one sided.. What you say is right..Remember the President..They come in with all these improvements and then they get squashed...vitoed..so they do what everyone else tells them to do...RIGHT? I say be a good Leader and don't listen too all that stuff. Hold you head up high.
Talk to your later.
God Bless,

There are over 700, 000 law enforcement officers in the United States ( http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/sandlle.htm ). Obviously with that many people, there are going to be a few that probably should never have gotten the job to begin with.
But really, according to you "I would not want to be a cop!
Honestly I could not handle it and because of that fact I chose a different profession.". You know it is too difficult for you to do but are more then willing to drag down on those that do the job............. What is that??
Hope this helps

Nobody in their right mind believes that any group should be painted with such a broad brush but **** happens. Police officers are in a unique position that can cause moments of controversy and hypocrisy. Certainly ALL cops aren't bad and ALL complainants don't lie but it's not as black and white an issue as you make it to be. Put yourself in the shoes of a cop today. Would you prefer a suspension, firing or prison time based on a complaint or would you prefer that equal treatment and a fair investigation be conducted before punishment is doled out? Many cases of police misconduct are one on one and without any physical signs abuse supported by other compelling evidence, the cases are hard to prove. In your eyes, a black eye from a bar fight the night before could result in the firing or imprisonment of a cop that stopped that same guy for speeding the next day. Just to get back at the cop, the violator alleges abuse. It's really not as simple as you see it...

I applaud Packleader22's response. Very well stated!
As an officer myself, I am absolutely astonished when I hear some of the rhetoric spewed by those trying to get officers in trouble.
I myself have been informed that certain photographs of illegal activity were maintained by the arrestee. Believe the arrestee if you wish...however, I have to laugh when I heard the allegation.
As a narcotics officer, I request to take monthly urinalysis and have an open invitation for those who wish to follow up any complaint of illegal activity within my home.
It's the nature of the beast and I expect no less from some of the "crackheads" I have to deal with.
Bottom line...if I know there's a dirty cop on my beat....he's the first one I target as his tarnished badge reflects poorly upon those of us who work hard to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
There are good and bad in EVERY walk of life...not just law enforcement. The difference is this profession makes headlines alot faster when there's an officer involved rather than when your corner hotdog vendor has shortchanged you.
Best wishes.

Did they train you to yell, kick chairs over, and spoil down doorways in karate? No, I did not consider so. If your mother was once anxious ample to name 911, you then have got to have posed ample of a danger to her that the police had been going to take the decision critically -- in particular after they noticed the smashed chairs, damaged door, and the leisure of your course of destruction. What could have satisfied any individual else for your little mood tantrum that your mother wasn't going to undergo the equal destiny as your furnishings and your condo? And the law enforcement officials undoubtedly had a proper to yell at you and shove you round like they did. It was once as a rule the one method they might train you the lesson that you simply so desperately wanted. You simply can not escape with disorderly habits, even for your possess house. Didn't you pay attention what occurred to Henry Louis Gates only a couple weeks in the past? And you are proper -- no person cares the way you consider. Suck up and manage it. In the truly global, no person cares approximately you, no person cares the way you consider, and no person cares if you happen to consider you have been bullied. If you desire sympathy, get a puppy. Your pockets is as a rule in proof now, as is your cell. At least that is $one hundred eighty much less that you simply must get in crisis with. By the best way, I disagree with Anne B. Professional "support" would possibly not be any support to you currently at this factor. If you have not found out your lesson but, why will have to a couple of periods with a cut down support? Feel-well psychology is not going to get you at any place.
