Or the Pillar of Fire? Or the Column of Smoke? Or the chorus of angels that hung over the manger when Jesus was born? Or the dove and booming voice when Jesus was baptized? Or all the miracles alleged to have been made?

God doesn't seem to have any problem appearing before Bronze Age monkeys, but is awfully shy with 21st century Humanity.

Can you explain this behaviour?

Option 1: God does not exist.

Option 2: God exists, but really hates us all, since she gives us no good reason to believe in her and yet will throw us into hell for not believing.

In Old Testament times, God was very much distant from people; while many knew of Him, there was not the personal relationship that Christians today speak of. God pretty much only spoke to the prophets, and in order to be known, had to display thins like the pillar of fire, the burning bush, etc. Christ performed miracles so that people would believe and to fulfill prophecies.

When Christ ascended, the Holy Spirit came. The Holy spirit, which dwells in Christians, is like our own connection to God. Because we have it, we no longer have to go to the temple to pray or have priests enter the Holy of Holies. The curtain was torn in the wake of Christ's death, and now that we have the spirit, we can have that personal relationship with God. He doesn't need to perform miracles like the parting of the Red Sea to make himself known anymore.

The theory of the Christian Mystics (Gnostics) was that the creation itself is Lucifer. For god to separate from iniquity he had to "Amputate" Lucifer from the trinity. To Gnostics Jesus saying if your eye offends you pluck it out, and if your hand offends you cut it of refers to Gods purpose on earth not instructions to his followers, else we would have many Christian amputees. The "amputation" happened when Christ was killed and resurrected. After the Crucifixion and Resurrection God never could appear spontaneously through the material world again. For god to operate within this Creation he must do it through the "Christians" now. To replace the now exiled Lucifer a new creation was begun with a new angel whose name hasn't been revealed, the first material in this new creation being the incorruptible body of Christ.

I've studied Gnostic beliefs for years, but practice Paganism as my current faith. Still I find the theory of why spontaneous miracles happened before Jesus but require a believers presence after Jesus to be fascinating.

Blessed Be

red sea - to let His people escape from the Egyptians

Noah's Flood - wipe out all the sin, but he promised to never to that again, so thats why he doesnt do it now

pillar of fire- to keep the isrealites warm in the desert at night and to guide them to the Promised Land

Column of smoke - to protect the Isrealits from the sun in the desert and to guide them in the day.

angels over jesus - Gods Son was born! why wouldn't there be angels?

Baptized- Jesus, the Son of God was baptized, that was a big thing and how many Sons of God get baptized every day? none, thats why you dont see it every day!

see, all these were for a reason, that wont probably happen again, so thats why you dont see it all the time!

I know that you state that you have read and reread the bible.

So, not really sure why this particular question.

We are in the age of Grace. The comforter is here 24/7 keeping evil at bay, not supressed.

At the end of the age of Grace (also known as the age of the church) the comforter will leave along with believers who are caught up in the clouds. Now, evil will be loosed and unrestricted and literally all Hell will break loose.

There were no drug laws in those days. You know the saying... religion is the Opiate of the masses... it's true. Those guys were flying high with no reservations in those days. The whole reason we're against drugs now is because too many people were seeing too many different visions of god, and none of them made any sense.

Well, a few thousand years ago, the evenings entertainment consisted of listening to the best story tellers. Now with movies, tv, radio and other media, the old tribal goat herder stuff has become outdated.

Well done.

While you're at it, where are the miracles these days? They seemed to be a dime a dozen a while back. It's as if there is some strange correlation between a rise in education and a diminishing of miracles.

God does not hide it says you cannot see God and yet live.
He is a spirit person and those worshipping him must worship with spirit and truth.
He does reveal himself to certain people under certain circumstances. Because if he just showed up at the mall it would probably cause a riot.
He makes himself available to those who care enought to search for him.
