I was born and raised in a Catholic church. We never went to church often. Then, i started going to a Baptist church later with my friend. I started getting more out of church when i went there, and i actually go there because i want to. My mom, however, doesn't like me going to a Baptist church, and lately she's been using comments like, if you don't do this, you can't go to youth or church tomorrow. I just want something that tells her there's nothing wrong with being a baptist. If you have scripture that says that, it would even be more helpful.

"If the part of the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches. If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, do not boast over those branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you." Romans 11:16-18
In the Church there is division, but is Christ divided?
"The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we are all baptized by one Spirit into one body - whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free - and we were all given the one Spirit to drink." 1 Cor 12:12-13

I'm a baptist and parents shouldn't use not going or going to church as a punishment no matter if your presbyterian/methodist/catholic. There's nothing wrong with being a catholic or baptist even though most catholics believe good works get you to heaven(they dont). Take your mom to church with you someday and maybe she'll understand and if she doesnt just pray about it.

The problem is your mom's faith is entirely different than that of baptists. Catholics like structure... and the Bible comes second to the structure and the holy word of the pope.
Quick story... my ex-girlfriend's mom was catholic, dad was lutheran. The catholic church said her mom was going to be kicked out of the church and certainly could not have the wedding there. Here comes the kicker... if her mom paid the church some big $$ then they were willing to forget all the nonsense and let them have their wedding in the church.
Very nice

You could show your mom the scripture in Matthew's gospel, chapter 3 where Jesus' cousin, John the Baptist (!) prepared the way for Jesus' ministry by getting people to repent and to be dunked under the waters of the Jordan river. Then he baptized Jesus!
Then there's Acts chapter 18 where Saint Paul told Crispus, the synagogue ruler in Corinth, to be baptized. He and his whole household were baptized as Christians (probably including children and servants). Then read Acts chapters 16 and chapter 19 verses 1 - 7. If that doesn't convince your mom, nothing will! Many will be praying for you and for her. God bless you both.

Some Roman Catholics have been taught that only Roman Catholics make it to heaven. This was especially true years ago. So she might believe that Baptists are all misguided and that you are risking your soul. You need to be patient with her and stress the fundamental beliefs that you learn in the Baptist church.

there is nothing wrong with going to a baptist church, you should go where you are comfortable and feel closer to the Lord. If you are getting nothing out of the Catholic church to make you feel closer to God, then I say dont go.

Explain to your mom just like you did to us. Remember it is hard for her because she is Catholic and feels that is the best or closest to the Lord. She just wants that for you. I am Church of Christ and I am going through what your mom is going through in a way. But I am having to discover what God intends for us not the "tradition" that I/we grew up with. Be patient with your mom. She loves you, that is why she introduced you to God. Pray that God will open her eyes to see we are all His children and maybe the Baptist church is where you are being spiritually fed.

i am a Catholic and i don't see anything wrong with you wanting to go to a Baptist church, if this is where you feel closest to God, then by all means go.

I don't see anything wrong with Baptist churches. They teach salvation... the way to heaven! This is good. All churches should teach this.

Southern Baptists are the most conservative and fundamentalist of mainstream Christian denominations. So if you think you have a lot in common with Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Ted Haggard, Oral Roberts, etc. then keep on going.
