i always see several gorgeous ladies at the gym, i'd like to strike up a convo but i don't know how to start, maybe compliment them on their glutes? It seems like a lot of them want to keep the talking to a minimum with me. Plus they are surrounded by several guys who are probably checking them out. These are normal girls not muscle bound fitness freaks.

Well, Yeah. I can see how they would be irritated, because that happens to me, and it irritates me. When I am at the gym, I am there for one thing. To work out. When someone is interrupting my set or my workout, it is irritating, becuase they break my concentration and get me out of my 'zone'. This is any person, regardless of gender. If it is a man doing this, there is the added irritation that they obviously are talking to you strictly based off of your physical appearance. That is pretty offensive. You don't walk up to a random woman and just say "Nice ***" (glutes - same damn thing) unless you want to get smacked. And since she's doing weightlifting, it'll probably hurt. Reasons like this are why I joined an all-women's gym. Much better, and I can actually do my workout without being bothered.

I'm not a girl, but I would assume that it depends on when, how, and how long you talk. No one wants to be interrupted in the middle of a set of exercises. But a quick passing comment after she is done probably won't hurt.

And you probably won't get too far with a complement. She gets that from everyone all of the time, if she is really hot (and it makes it sound like you just want one thing).

Try a quick, teasing joke about how she isn't finished yet, because she needs more work (at least that's original). Or ask her advice about the exercise that she just finished. What muscles group is that for? how many sets, and how long? Etc. in short, make normal conversation, like if she were a guy; don't complement her on her looks as if she were a sculpture.

I don't want guys to flirt with me when I'm at the gym. I'm sweaty and yuck ... not in the mood to deal with some Romeo.

Try to catch me before I go in or when I am leaving - ask the staff to put a note in my locker ... but when I am gasping for breath on the stair climber ... just as soon not try to carry on a conversation.

I would not like to be chatted up at the gym. It is probably because I am sweaty and trying to lift weights. I think it would be better if someone were to talk to me while I was on the treadmill. I would feel more comfortable there.
