I have my learners permit, but not my drivers licenses yet. I have a car, and I want to put insurance on it. What should I do? Would the insurance be put as my name or my parents/guardians?

ANY car that is driven is required insurance. As a person with a permit only, you should be covered by the insurance of the owner of the car. If you are the owner you have to have a valid license before you can purchase, other wise have your folks put it in their name.

You can't have insurance on a car unless you have a drivers license. Your parents would have to add you to their insurance until you can get insurance of you own. Really you should just keep it that way because insurance for you will be very expensive. Insurance under your parents will be much cheaper.

You can get it in your own name but it will cost you dearly to do so. It would be much cheaper to have your parents add your car to their policy.

Contrary to what others have posted below, you do NOT need to have a license to get insurance. My uncle was a quad for nearly 30 years. He owned many vehicles and had no trouble getting insurance. He couldn't drive them of course -- no license, arms or legs -- but he damn sure could own and insure them!

Yes, you will be added as a line driver on your parent's policy. As soon as you got your permit, your parents should have contacted your insurance agent. It will cause their rates to go up, but if you've got good grades, usually they'll give a discount. It's possible for you to obtain your own insurance, but I doubt the rate will be very good on your own unless your parents have multiple accidents, tickets, DUI's or revocations of liscensure.
