Sorry, mayans and aztecs were in central and s. america first not n. america. The various tribes of american indians were very badly treated as were the black slaves that were brought here against their will and eventually their decedents became Americans. Evey one understands this. The question is now we have a sovern country that needs to have procedures to protect its borders and a process by which people who want citizenship can apply. The idea of letting people who knowingly broke our immigration laws become citizens without a proper background check and setting some limits is just stupid.

We also want Americans not _____-Americans. Everyone wants to keep part of their heritage but Americans need to be Americans first. American-African, American-Irish, American-Latino, etc.

It is not so much who was here first, but what to do about the people who are here now.

I mean if we went back to history George Washington and company where all illegal immigrants. But we don't need to do all of that. We need to find a solution to the present problem, which is short term, medium term, and long term.

Americans are crazy if they think in the age of Globalization that they are going to close the border. Wherever your goods and services go, people are going to understand that those products come imbedded with a qulaity of life. So when people see a Chevy Impala in Colombia, people associate the quality of that product with the U.S.

I think we need to sit down as a society and come up with a real solution to this problem. People in Washington have no idea what they are doing.

We need to make policy happen

Well using your argument, most Europeans should not be where they are because their ancestors conquered the natives. Hungary is an example, the Huns conquered it from the people who had lived there before, so should they give it back?

What about the Japanese? The Ainu are the natives of the Island, the people that we consider the Japanese came from China and conquered the island, so should they give it back?

How far back does the 'we were here first' whine argument go?

If you want to get technical, the american indians were here first, and now they are forced to live on reservations instead of roam the country like they used to.

My view on immigration is this: people want to come here because it is a better place. That's fine; do it legally. Learn English, become a citizen, and live like an american. We should not have to learn other languages to speak with you when you are coming to OUR country!

hm that's an interesting thought. but all the mexicans comming over the border illegally don't know that culture, and have been living outside the US for so long, that this is kind of ignored. I think if you werent born a citizen, you can't complain and claim you were "here first".

yeah i think asians were here first (they crossed through a glacier or something like that when the continents were still connected) and obviously over years and years they eventually turned into native americans, which kind of makes sense because a lot of native americans have those almond shaped eyes just like the asians except they are darker

Basically is doesnt matter who was here first. Arguing about that is just a waste of time. We have to deal with the present not the past.

the continents of north and south america were populated by asians coming in from russia over the land bridge that is now called the bering straight...there was NEVER an indigenous people on these land masses and, in case you didn't know this, land is 'owned' only by those who are able to take it and keep it. the mayans, aztecs, olmecs, and any other 'native' indian tribe you can name were obviously not able to hold on to theirs...

true America is a melting pot of immigrants but now the government has set rules for residency to protect our current population and I believe in obeying those laws set forth; otherwise, we would be overun by illegals (we just about are now)
