We don't believe that Ibrahim \ Abraham did kill Ismail \ Ishmael. Actually we believe that the sacrifice was stopped and the survivor is our devoted ancestor. The father of all Arabs

There is some present day evidence to our side of the story. The eternal well of Zamzam in Mecca is believed to have been formed when the angel (maybe Gabriel) struck the desert beneath Ismail's feet when he was only a little baby with no one around but his mother.
We believe that Ibrahim returned to them both and years passed and together Ibrahim and Ismail built the Ka'ba. Only after that the sacrifice incident took place.
According to us, Ismail is referred to as the Paragon of Devotion

Thanks for all these answers, y'all. We differ around something that is clearly a matter of faith. I needed the query, though.

God commanded Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. Ishmael was never considered as a heir to Abraham, since his tempermant and personality were defctive- thus why Sarah told Abraham to send him away for she saw him "making merry", which Rashi explains as most likely being engaged in idol worship as the same terminology is used for the Jews when they sinned at the Golden Calf- he was deficient in the qualities necessary for a leader of the Jews.

In fact, it is the understanding of the Rabbis that the two people he took with him, that had to wait beind by the donkeys, were Eliezer (the servant he later sends to find a wife for Isaac) and Ishmael.

It was Isaac, the son of promise. Abraham was willing to sacrifice his own son for God, believing that God could bring that same son back to life.

Abraham was commanded to kill Isaac.
What that answerer was referring to was Genesis 21:12 "Within Isaac will be your offspring"

it was his son Isaac, Ishmael was never accepted as his son.
considering Abraham pregnated his servant-Hagar which she gave him a son. But G-d was just testing his faith.

Ibraham... so you're Muslim?

I understand that the Muslim tradition says that it was Ishmael, and that Abraham actually killed him.

The Jewish Bible, on the other hand, says that it was Isaac, and that God's angel stopped the sacrafice at the last moment.
