I love this question and I hate this question.
YES you pay your deductible IF your insurance company is handling your repairs for you. This is your agreement with them...you pay your deductible, they pay for everything over that amount. They will then get your deductible BACK FROM the at fault parties insurance company and then return it to you.
NO you do not pay your deductible IF the at fault parties insurance company is handling your repairs direct.
If your insurance company is handling your repairs you can always call the at fault insurance company and request they advance your deductible to you. They may not do this, but you don't know unless you ask.

There should be no deductible if the other driver's insurance company is paying for your repairs. If he's not insured though then your uninsured motorist coverage comes into play. If you have a colision deductible, the shop will expect you to pay whatever the insurance company does not. It's not their fault that you got hit afterall. But if your insurance company is taking care of it and the other person was at fault, they will go after him for their costs as well as your deductible. But if you want your car back now, pay the deductible and hope you end up seeing it again.

Who told you this? I would contact my insurance company and see what they say. Some shady repair shops may be trying to get an extra 500 out of you. They will have you pay the 500 and then submit the entire repair bill to the other person's insurance company.
Your insurance agent should be able to get you the correct information on this question. I doubt if you have ot pay it, but check with the insurance to be sure. good luck.

If the accident is being paid through your company your deductible applies. If you've made a claim through the insurance of the guy who hit you, you won't have to pay it as they're repsonsible for the damage.
I'd immediately find a more honest body shop.

WHENEVER you go through your own insurance.. regardless of fault... you pay your deductible. Its written in your policy. In turn, after youve paid, they will attempt to collect it back from the other carrier.
If you go directly through the at fault parties insurance- you will not be responsible for a deductible.

If the claim isn't yet settled between the companies, you have to pay your deductible. If and when your company collects from the other, you will get it back.

Other guy's insurance should pay the whole deal if you called the police and a report got the other guy as at fault. No police report and you are on your own.
