On a scale of 1 - 10, how factual do you believe the information contained in the Bible is, and why?

Also, if you are a part of a religious faith, what is it, and does your interpretation of the scripture (and your comment on the question above) reflect the belief system of your religion?

Religions that are Bible-based usually have an amount of the scripture that they believe is allegory, and a portion that they believe is literal translation. I was looking for answers that reflected that. Its a deeper question than you are responding.

It is all written for our instruction and benefit. (2Tim. 3:16) Now some is plainly illustrations or parables as it says in context. Prophesies always come true. Jesus as an example died in 33CE. He foretold Jerusalem's destruction exactly in 68 to 70CE. That is 35 years. Some are 1,000 years in the future from the date they were written.

Following it's instructions give us the best personal and family life. The 600,000 books printed each year for self improvement would be unneeded. Dr. Phil might go on welfare.

It teaches why man is here and why we owe our exclusive devotion and worship to the Creator. What is our purpose.

Hmm about a three.
I think some of it can be linked with history. But word for word? No. It doesn't make any sense. Not to mention a lot of the "stories" are word for word from other faiths. The flood, the Ten Commandments, even the creation story. if the Bible is fact then so are those. You can't have it both ways.

Three on my scale. The bible does use historical persons and settings for its stories, but they are neither chronological nor consistent with the observable evidence. To me, it's like setting the Spider-Man comics and movies in New York City. Sure, NY is a real place, and there are thugs and criminals as well as heroes, but nothing like what's represented in the comics or movies.

I believe some of it is factual and some of it is allegorical or symbolical.

I try to be like Jesus in the way I treat others.
I will defend myself, however. I do not "turn the other cheek" if someone tries to abuse me or hurt me.

Religion is based on belief and faith in that belief.
