You really should not have given that to her in the first place to take to bed with her. The juice has sugars in it that can ruin their teeth. Also, that is a safety issue. What if she rolled over on it and poked her eye, or re-flexed her arm holding it and the cup hit her face? A little stuffed animal is OK, but little.

Just take it away from her, give her a little stuffed animal instead. She'll convert. It's not like she is going to stay awake because she doesn't have the sippy cup. Truly, after about 1 they aren't suppose to use a pacifier, so don't give her one in place of that. Those aren't good for their teeth either, it bows them out and separates them.

As a parent you want to give your children everything they want and make them happy, but you also have to think about what it is they are asking for and what it will do. You need to take the sippy cup away from her when she sleeps, that really is not good for her.

I had the same thing with my son and my step daughter is doing the same thing. We only give her water at night and that's only if she asks for somethin to drink. Eventually weene her off the sippy cup by only giving it to her everyother night and then no nights. Depending on how old she is I would tell her if she wakes up in the middle of the night thirsty then and only then can she have a sippy cup. Hope this helps!

You should never let you child go to sleep w/ a sippy cup full of Juice! The juice can ruin her teeth b/c of all the sugar and things that stay on the teeth over night....you should at least just put water in it!

I had the same problem! My daughter always wanted juice when she went to bed and she would even wake up in the middle of the night asking for juice. I knew it was really bad for her teeth so I just stopped giving her the juice. I switched to water. She was very unhappy and the first few nights were hard, but eventually she got over it. Now we are at the point where she doesn't get anything to drink at bedtime and she doesn't seemed to notice or care. It was difficult in the beginning, but my persistence paid off.

my daughter was 3½ when i broke the habit of the sippy cup at night and luckily that stopped when we went on vacation. I told her we couldn't bring the cup and milk w/us on the plane cuz the milk would go bad.
we gave her warm 1% milk in her cup, about 4-6oz, she'd drink about 2-3 and fall asleep.
Maybe try the milk rather than juice; the juice will rot her teeth. Maybe try the warm milk and just slowly cut down on the amount.
I know it's tough, if it weren't for our vacation she'd probably still be taking one at almost 4.

good luck!

You are not alone!!!! How old is she? Mine are 2 and 3 and everynight it's becomes a battle royal btween me and my son in particular (he just turned 3). He used to be addicted to those NUBIES I finnally threw them ALL away. He was standing at my feet screaming at me and demanding I get him a NUBY so with him standing there I started pitching one at a time in the garbage can he was screaming and kicking so bad but he was ok about 20 minutes later he calmly asked me for a regular sippy (for those who have not seen a NUBY it's a sippy with a silicone top almost like a bottle) and i guess my next project is to get them both used to regular cups and do the same with the sippies they use now. I don't know is that just too mean?

Try this: make holding the cup so awkward that she gives up. Attach the sippy cup (firmly!) to a good sized teddy bear, so that she has to hold the entire thing up to get to the mouthpiece. After a while, skip the cup, and just go with the bear. A friend tried this with a pacifier, and it worked great.

It very common, my daughter was the same. I would recommend taking it away from her as soon as she gets restless. Its the security of having something (like a pacifier). Try making a trade with her (she gives you the sippy cup and you give her a pooh bear). Make it a reward issue almost the same as if you were potty training.

No. Luckily my kids never got in the habit of going to sleep like that. You better stop letting her sleep with juice in her mouth. Even 20% juice will rot her teeth. Try replacing it with just water.

My son had that problem...I know some our saying not to send your kid to bed with juice...but I admit...I did that once in awhile...to keep him quiet and make him fall asleep. His teeth are in good shape.

Anyway....water the juice down much more! And if you can take your finger with a washcloth and wipe her teeth without waking her....impossible it sounds...but it helps with the teeth issue. If you can get her to drink water instead.
