the police in the uk are there to uphold the laws of the land and when in uniform reprsent the law not race creed or religion. if the ethnics wanted to become police then there is nothing to stop them as long as they uphold the law of this land. i feel that it is wrong to fast track ethnic police officers because of race or religion. i have nothing to do with the police but would like to know what the general opinion is

It is wrong. The best man should get the job, regardless.Only work experience, life experience, and references should ever be considered. There should be no bias in favour of either white or ethnic officers in my opinion.

There is nothing wrong, in my opinion, in trying to encourage more ethnic diversity in the police force or any other work place for that matter. What's the problem with it? Be realistic - if a white guy turns up and does well in the interview/recruitment process, he will be hired no matter what. I personally think we need more diversity, to encourage cohesion between ethnic groups.

Also, it is not the case that disabled people are guaranteed interviews over other people. There are obvious exceptions (e.g. wheelchair users won't get an interview for Cabin Crew, station assistants, etc), and there are other exceptions (e.g. if a disabled person doesn't have the right experience). But the disability laws correctly mean that an employer can no longer discriminate - so if a disabled person has good experience but gets the job over someone a lot less qualified, the employer should be in trouble.

Unfortunately, these days everyone wants to be politically correct and equal. I feel that when race is the deciding factor in whether a person should be a police officer, you lend yourself to hiring problems. Where i work there is a on going drive to hire more African American officers, especially women. From the last academy class two have been arrested one for multiple rapes of prostitutes on duty. Officers should be hired on ability only, i don not care what color or sex you are. I want the best of the best, not only as a law enforcement professional but as a citizen also. I have to say our dept. is very strict, even down to the way your uniform looks. minor violations you get days off, anything major your fired. If you are under investigation for anything major your either put on a desk away from the public or sent home w/o pay. My dept. doesn't play the blue wall crap. Bad cops give good cops bad names.

Yes very wrong. What is the first question you think even if you don't say it, " Aye! Aye! Can this fella do the job or is he just in as a statistic. " Whilst we need more police from the minorities they must reach the required educational and physical standards ( not lowered for political reasons ) otherwise no favours or done to the general public or to the so called ethnic minorities.because confidence will be further reduced. Not the fault of the police but of political stupidity

Dave, Good question.
It would make sense to have an ethnic & non-ethnic law enforcer working side by side. Sometimes not knowing the culture of ones ethnic could pose problems especially langauage barriers. Helping a partner when needed makes the case easier to handle with the understanding that no favoritism is established. It would also help keep business business and not personal because of ethnics.

recruiting officers because of there colour and creed is racist full - stop, if the police force said they were recruiting white officers there would be a "racist" outcry and you wouldnt stop hearing about it, but of course if doesnt seem to matter when white people are the ones being victimised, im sick and tired of the way white people are treated in this land while ethnics are taking evrything and leaving nothing for the people who built this country to become one of the greatest Empire's Ever. What would Churchill say... tut .. tut

Dave, I'm with you. Sick to death of stuff like this going on in the country. Fast tracking applications just because a company or organisation wants to make sure it has the right percentage of ethnic workers for the government stats..

Another thing is giving disabled people a guaranteed interview in recruitment. Basically regardless of the persons ability to do the job they are GUARANTEED an interview and a shot at the job because they are disabled.

The whole thing stinks, we as a nation focus too heavily on discrimination etc and being PC. I have no problem at all with minorities or disabled people, I just feel that this positive discrimination is getting us nowhere...

No matter what colour or religion a person is,
if they pass all the exams, and reach the
accepted level, only then should they be allowed to patrol our streets.
The powers that be, must recruit for the right
reasons, not because it looks good on paper
to say, there are more ethnic policemen now.

Almost all officers including those of us from ethnic minority backgrounds feel that the promotion and progression of an officer should be based purely ontheir indivudualy merits as an officer.

Although i have no personal knowledge of any fast tracking of non-white officers, it is general opinion that it goes on, as does it for homosexual and transgender positive discrimination.

We dont like it, and we dont respect seior officers who have been raised through the unfair system. They arent as good as their harder working counterparts.

Here in the US, their violations of citizens' rights brought on the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which they hate to even hear about. It educates the public about their rights and even prosecutes cases of abuse and police misconduct.

The cops only have themselves to blame for the existence of the organization
