Had my first driving lesson today and it went surprisingly well! I was wondering if it's better to have just the one hour, once a week, or has anyone found it better to have maybe two one hour lessons each week, or one two hour etc...? Also, i've been reading a lot of driving tips books, the highway code, practicing my hazard perception and theory etc. Do you think i should just concentrate on the driving itself or is it better to try learn everything at once? I'm a 21 year old female, does anyone know rougly how long it will take me to learn everything so i can take my test? I know everyone is different but id just like an idea. I think i pick things up fairly quickly. Thanks

1-2 hours at least every other day..is great...make sure you listen to the instructor(s)...read any book on driving that you can get a hold of...learn what you can memorize and then go to the next..but always review what you have learned...you will never learn everything...always something new even to me ..25 years...driving...
one thing to get when you get your first car... is an emergency window breaker/seat belt ripper..availble at any auto zone or simaler place..always have that in reach
follow the rules of the road...and when you take your written test do the answers you know first...
then after that your first hunch is 90% right most of the time
learn the signs they are on the test here in ILLINOIS they are half the test
good luck and take the test when your ready...
when they take you for the drive test make sure the car you use meets every code because they will check..lights turn signal ,hazards horn..epa if applicable..horn..seat belts..
just dont be nervous when you take a deep breath let it out real slow..they will mark off if go past the stop sign ..if you dont use your signals..make sure your within 6 inches of the curb
one thing when you start the drive test..asjust the mirrors..even if they are ok they do look for that

Definitely read the manuals - and pay attention to the driving lessons.

In addition - find someone who will let you use their car, and drive you to a big empty parking lot where you can practice maneuvering - without an instructor breathing down your neck so you can be more relaxed.

I always thought that there was a minimum time to have your learner's permit. In KY, it used to be 6 months. Over the years it may have changed. but the more practice that you get the better off you are. You'll do fine. good luck.

Take the whole entire course so that you will get a discount on your insurance. you should take the biggest package that the driving school has to offer because it educates you on everything. you get knowledge on driving plus you get the actual driving skills.
