I have about 1 1/2 months 'till cross country season starts. How far should I run each day to get in shape by then? And how much minutes per mile should I be averaging? Also, for a 15 year old 5ft 9 inch how much should I weigh to be a good cross country runner

i am also 15 and i am about 5 foot and 11 inches and weigh about 160 pounds. I'm a decent cross country runner and i am in my average condition. I would say you need to gain 5 pounds. The first week you need to just get back into running so i just run 3 miles eveeryday for a week. Then the next week run 4 miles everyday. Then from then on out run 4 miles every other day. Then run 5 miles every other day. Ex: Monday 4 miles Tuesday: 5 miles and so on for the rest of the time. At the beggining you should want to average about six minutes and thirty seconds. But as you get deeper into your training i would say around 6 minutes a mile. Also take Saturdays easy on your runs and on Sundays rest.

There is really no set distance. Everybody is different. Start off easy and gradually increase. Soreness is good. Pain is not. You don't need to run every day. You need to take a day off every so often so you don't burn yourself out. You should also do some strength training. This will help your running. I ran CC when I was in high school. I didn't run at all one summer and I paid the price when CC started. The next summer I ran 3-5 days a week. 3-5 miles each run. I felt good when CC season started. I think your weight is good for a runner. Good luck.

First of all, i think the meets are about 3 miles, and it all depends how in-shape you are. If you are 5' 9'' tall, 135 is a perfect weight. Running includes people of all shapes and sizes. I've learned the hard way that compromising your nutrition compromises your running. I would say that how much you weigh has NOTHING to do with how good of a runner you are, unless you are unhealthily overweight. I think 135 is a fine weight for your height and age.

hgt and wght are fine.
You should contact the HS coach and find out what they are doing for workouts. I know I say the same thing to many people on here, the reason for this suggestion, is because many coaches do different types of workouts and believe in different philosophies. High Mileage, Low Mileage, no mile count just timed runs etc...
If you get in touch with the HS coach he/she will get you onto the same page as the team for summer workouts and you will be much better off when the season starts or the team starts having official practices.
Best of Luck !!!
