That is a HUGE violation of your personal space and you have a right to be very upset. Do you think your mom read it though because she was worried about you and felt she needed to know what is going on with your life, or that she was just being nosy? Either way, I think you definitely should tell her that you feel she violated your privacy and that especially after she has told her side of the family your business, you no longer feel you can trust her. That should make her feel pretty guilty. A word to the wise - burn that diary and never keep another one. Moms ALWAYS find them (mine did too when I was younger).

it depends as a parent I feel that if there is something wrong with my child then personal space and privacy take a back seat to the health and well being of my child. That being said she had no right what so ever to share what she read with your aunt or other family members.( unless some crime was being committed IE incest) I would call her on the carpet and make sure your diary is in a more secure area next time

I would definately be upset because thats a violation of your privacy that you are entitled to. I would also tell her how you feel about the whole situation and tell her that if she is worried about something or wants to ask you something that she can always ask you and you will be happy to provide her with an honest answer. I also suggest that you put your diary somewhere that no one could ever find it or make a diary on a zip drive and always keep it in your purse. And its none of your moms business to tell everyone in your family either. My mom did that to me and stopped doing it when I told her how bad it upset me that I couldnt have my own privacy. But I hope this helps.

My mom read my diary when I was thirteen. She was worried about me because I had started smoking and hanging around the wrong crowd. Her interfering kept me from doing anything worse and ruining my life. Sure, I was mad then but now that I'm a mother, I understand why she did it.
It is your mother's responsiblitity to keep you safe. If she thought you were in trouble, she had every right. You are living in her house correct? Too many parents are uninvolved and let their children run off and do whatever they want to do. You are lucky to have your mom in your life and who cares about you.

I think most moms do this when they think something might be going on or the kid is just up to something they won't talk about. It is her job to protect you. Yes I can see how this would make you mad. Let me tell you a little secret..... Burn it and never ever write anything on paper or computer you wouldn't want someone else to read! It always comes back to bite you.

Yes, you should be mad at your mom! she made a stupid misstake of telling about your diary to other people.
but being angry wont make you feel any better. try to look at it this way: you are your mothers daughter, most likely she did similar things when she was your age. most likely she did it out of concern rather than just being nosy. there are moms who give a **** to their children, you know.
hide your diary from now on, most likely she will read it again if she has a chance.

Yes that isn't right of your mom but maybe your mom feels like she lost connection with you and wants to know what's in your life.... Sit down and talk to your mom and tell her how you feel and tell her if she needs to know anything she can just ask you instead of violating your personal space..
